The picture quality setting is in the REC mode menu. Your four choices are TIFF, JPEG Fine, JPEG Standard, and RAW. See the "Quality" section in the manual (page 74 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download a copy here.

Thanks. Still can't access this option. Previous owner has set up raw and I have tried reset but cannot get to quality option in set up menu and cannot access in record menu. Any thoughts?

What picture mode(s) are you in? You can only access this menu in certain modes; see page 70.

Why am I no longer able to set my 60D camera to take RAW formatted pcitures

Hi,
In order to select RAW mode, first check if your camera is in either Manual(M)/(A)/(AV)/(Ev) modes. Then go to setting-picture format-RAW/RAW+Basic.
In order to edit the RAW picture, you need to update the RAW version if you are using Adobe Photoshop for editing your pictures.

Thank you!

What does raw+fine pictures mean?

The raw+fine setting indicates that your camera will take both raw (NEF) and high resolution JPEG pictures with every shot. You can change this to shoot just JPEG or just raw shots using your menu under the little camera icon. Click on image quality and it will give you multiple settings so you can choose only raw or only JPEG. You have three JPEG settings: fine, normal or basic.

I always shoot raw+fine which I think may be the default setting. I use the jpeg pictures for simple and quick editing and I use raw for detailed editing. JPEG pictures deteriorate quickly during editing while raw pictures can handle extensive editing without significant deterioration.

When you shoot raw+fine, it means the camera is actually storing two pictures of the same shot, one in each of the two formats. When you view the pictures in Windows, you can tell the difference between the raw shots and the jpeg shots because the raw shots have a broad black bar across the top and bottom of the picture while the jpeg shots fill the screen.

When taking disk to be printed there are 2 folders. Each picture appears twice. Why?

Sounds like you have Jpeg and RAW selected in the menu. Select just one (RAW is the better choice)

I have been given a Coolpix P6000 which I am still experimenting with. My latest pictures contain some images which have an NRW extension instead of JPEG and these pictures cannot be printed. How can I...

NRAW is a RAW image file taken directly from the the sensor & is not processed by the camera. RAW files can be edited in photo editing software. If you want camera to record JPEG files change your [IMAGE QUALITY] setting to [FINE], {NORMAL] or [BASIC].
or to record image in both formats as RAW & JPEG use [NRAW+FINE] etc.
Hope this helps you ;)

Canon g9 camera doesnt work in raw only jpeg

Go to the menu for the camera and look for "SAVE". you should have the choice in which format to save the pictures. Select "RAW" and then exit the menu. The camera should now save in RAW format. Some one or something probably switched the setting (such as reset camera).

Changing format

Sounds as if you have changed the record mode to RAW. You need to go back and change the rec mode to something other than RAW and the files will go back to JPG files. Page 59 and 60 of your user manual explains how to change the record mode to something other than RAW.

I do know what that means... :) Most programs don't deal with the information in RAW photos automatically--RAW Photos MUST be "developed" electronically in order to be seen "correctly." The Silkypix software that came with your camera is one software that will allow you to do this. Adobe Lightroom2 is another.

This camera allows you to shoot JPEG or RAW + JPEG
(The mode I recommend--despite it taking up large amounts of memory on your SDHC cards.) The reason I like this mode is you have the JPEG which provides you with instant gratification where you can get a pretty clear picture of what you got in the shot--but the RAW let's you do infinitely more with developing the image.

It's the best of Both worlds.

Of course you can shoot in High Quality JPEG alone if you just want to point and shoot and only make minor corrections to your shots but you lose significant pixel and other electronic data in the JPEG format that is present in RAW.

I hope this is helpful!

Choosing to shoot Raw images

If you have Rebel XTi (400D), press Menu button.

Under the 1st Tab, the first option is "Quality" - select it. You should see 8 options from "fine L" to "Raw". Move selection using the arrow keys, and select RAW.
