I have an Acer Aspire One with a Windows XP operating system.
I can turn the machine on and it gets as far as Windows just appearing when there is a clicking sound and it shuts itself down. This appears to happen more quickly when the machine is not plugged in.

Re: Acer Aspire One wont turn on
Hi there It sounds like the hard drive is faulty and has some bad sectors on it. Take the hard drive and boot the machine to rule out any other possibilities of problems with the laptop itself, if it stays on and just says hard disk not found you know its the hard drive. You need to have the hard drive checked for possible bad sectors and have them repaired or maybe even have to purchase a new drive.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Hi, The acer aspire M5641 , usually ships with windows Vista. If you are planning to install windows Xp. You would have to source the windows xp cd. You cannot buy the XP cd from microsoft as windows xp is now and end of life operating system and not sold off the shelf. However if you already have the XP cd with you , you can use the same cd. Note hardware on your acer may not work , because of driver unavailability for XP operating system. However if your system was shipped with , refer to the following video links to guide through the reinstall process
If you have no support discs & did not make a recoverty disc then you will have to contact the retailer you purchased the laptop from or Acer themselves. You should have documentation that will detail your product key though without this you may have issues getting the genuine copy of vista reinstalled. An alternative would be to buy a copy of windows 7 (if your laptop can take it) as it is far more stable & streamlined than Vista. or get a genuine copy of XP for cheaper.
Its probably also a good idea to take it back to the local computer guy & demand he reinstalls vista or gives you a genuine copy of XP. You can report him to the police for distributing illegal software too.
Here is the website for Windows XP

Yes you can install Windows XpSp2 but will give you lots of problem. it will not read your HD. than you will need HD SATA Drivers. after that you will need to call Acer's to Get drivers for the chipset and Sound. i suggest that you stay with the Windows Vista. you will not have any problems.
