  • bryanfoshee Jan 15, 2009

    the secure2 site is invalid.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 15, 2009

To:Ziraffa. Yes I can but I don't know which ones to download. It's all greek to me.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

To:Ziraffa. Thanks! That got part of it but I still need the wireless driver because that is how I get on the internet.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

To Zirrafa: I figured out the wireless card but I can't seem to reset it. When I insert the paperclip it does nothing. Is there a certain way to do this?

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

Chris(Ziraffa);I hate to keep bothering you with this but it still does not work. It still says it cant aquire network address. I know it's the right driver I put in because at least it's trying to get on there.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

Good morning Chris. I tried what you said. It is still showing no ip address.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

Chris; I can see the network and it says it is connected but it can not renew ip address.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

Typed in ipconfig/renew. Reply is unable to to contact DHCP server.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 16, 2009

Hi Chris. I tried the last cmd prompt but it did not do or show anything. This thing is realy getting on my last nerve and it's not anything that you've done either.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 17, 2009

I don't have a router. I'm piggy backing off my brother-in-law,which is legal by the way. I help pay for the service. So I don't know what to do. I have one computer that already works on his network and all we did was input his security code. That doesn't seem to work this time though.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 17, 2009

You are very welcome. I have the encryption key but it still did not work through all the stuff we tried already.

  • bryanfoshee Jan 17, 2009

Do you mean like a ethernet connection?

  • bryanfoshee Jan 17, 2009

How do I reinstall the TCP/IP?

  • bryanfoshee Jan 17, 2009

It says INPROCOMM 802.1x supplicant driver is not digitally signed. It asks for disk that I don't have.

You can use Belarc Adviser to learn more about your machine, and possibly whether Unknown Device is the Wireless card or the Graphics card etc

  • chris grams

    Hey Bryan,

On that page from the drop down menu for XP Driver/Utilities, the LAN Driver Realtek one will get you online with a ethernet cable. So copy that from the machine you are on just now, onto a disk or a USB stick. You also want the audio, CPU driver, cardbus, chipset and touchpad.
Leave anything else for now and install those.
Then you'll get online, with sound, and working hardware, and a touchpad that works!
However, you won't have wireless. There are a choice of 3 wifi drivers on the list. These are specific to the 3 most common brands of wifi card which come prepackaged with your machine. You'll have to check with your documentation, or try using Belarc Advisor to see which one you have.
Don't worry if this takes 20 posts here, mate, it's better that we do this properly!

The 3rd one down on the list - 802g Broadcom, and the bottom 3 (the other broadcom one and the atheros ones) are the wireless drivers
Try them one at a time I suppose..

Remember to reset your wireless router (just hold a paper clip in the little reset hole for 15 seconds and wait for about a minute or so, untill all the lights have stopped flashing and remain on.
This is so that you are able to connect wirelessly without any access keys or encryption issues to confuse you while you test your laptop's wifi driver.
You can add WPA protection after you are sure your laptop is setup okay. This the best route to take, in order to simplify the process of knowing if you have installed the correct driver or not.

After you get wirelessly connected, post the model of wireless router you have at home and I'll tell you the default username and password you'll need to enter in your browser, in order to get access to the menu where you'll set up your Wireless Security.

    Chris (ziraffa)

  • chris grams
    chris grams Jan 16, 2009

You just push something sharp into the hole until you can feel it pressing in a little button, and hold for 15 seconds.
You can do it by typing your router's address into your internet browser (usually 192.168.0.1, but it varies on different setups, so if that doesn't work try 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1)
It'll ask you for the username/password for the router. You can find the defaults here. Sometimes you can leave it blank or just use admin or something.
When you're on the router's menu, you can do a Restore Factory Settings. This'll put everything back to default and you'll be able to connect wirelessly.
Let me know how you get on, mate..

Don't worry, you're not bothering me! Haha.. I've been through this sort of thing loads of times :D
Did you remember to restart the machine? And if you right-click on your network icon in the bottom right hand corner can you Diagnose and Repair?
Also in Device Manager make sure the driver is working properly.
It could be one of these things:
    Diagnosis:

    1. DHCP Service not running.

    2. Duplicate IP address on the network.

    3. Bad NIC card drivers.

    4. Defective NIC hardware.

    Resolution:

    1. Check Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be
Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.

    2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices,
restart (power cycle) the router, then restart all the computers and
      other network devices.

    3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.

    4. Replace the Network Interface Card.
I suspect you're using the wrong driver myself, but it's hard to tell from here.. I don't know which one you installed.. or the type of router.. or if you can see the Network in the Wireless Network list.. or.. etc

Try opening a terminal. You press Start > Run, and type cmd
    Then type:

    ipconfig/release

    and then:

    ipconfig/renew

That'll give you a different ip address. Maybe that'll help.

    Hey there Bryan,
Sorry if you were waiting long, I had to go out today..
You have to make sure that DCHP is turned on, on both the router and the laptop.
Just a question: Do you have a broadband router lined out to a wireless router, or just the one wireless router?
Post the model of the router here.
I need to know this in order to advise you how to enable DCHP, if it is not already enabled.

If you type services.msc into Run, you'll see the Services menu. Scroll down and find DCHP client and make sure it is running. If it is not, right-click on it and Start/Restart it. Also do this with DNS Client. Reboot.

If you have already used a cable to connect to your router and you've already been to the router's menu and made sure that DCHP is enabled, then all I can think of is that you could go back the laptop and try the Netsh command described Here to reset it to all defaults and then try a normal setup from there.

If that fails, I'll need more details about your LAN and a first step will be to get to a cmd prompt, run:

    ipconfig /all > c:\config.txt

and post the contents of the c:\config.txt file.

I definitely think you need to login to your router and enable DCHP.
You won't get anywhere until you do this..
If you have a cable to connect your laptop to the router, use it. And login to the router and enable DCHP.

Ah.. In that case you should ask your brother-in-law to login to his router and turn off MAC filtering for your laptop.
    Or you could read this.
    Good Luck Bryan!

I wonder if you could set your computer (that connects okay) up as an Internet Access Point? It means that you would have to keep it actually on, while you are surfing with your laptop, but it might be a way forward..
I think you would have to set up a Wireless Network on the computer, that you would then connect to with your laptop. Maybe experiment with that..

Not ethernet, but an ad-hoc wireless network.. I mean something like this:

    Here concerns the re-installing tcp/ip.
At least you're learning as you go :D
I take it Inprocomm.. is the brand of wireless card in the computer that gets the wifi signal ok?
Well you could now put your research skills to the test by putting the full title of the card into google, followed by the words 'driver software' and see if you can find anything.
I find obscure ones on a daily basis for people, but it's usually because they are too scared to register with driverguide or suchlike, when it's actually pretty useful for getting access to the hard-to-find stuff. So if you come across the disk software, just register with the site.. Use a newly setup email account if you want to avoid the spam..

Remember and take a break from time to time.. I find this stops me from going totally nuts :D

I think you have dual Os on it i.e Win XP & Win Vista. So, I am sorry to say that you can not access the full factory restore from the recovery partion. At this point, I would suggest you to contact the Acer Technical Supprt and order for RCD (Recovery Disk) inorder to wipe everything from the computer or you can use a Disk Manager utility to wipe everything from the computer. You can visit the below link to download the software

The best way to handle this is to completely reformat the drive again, to rid win 7 and the bad XP, and to then re-install XP from the DVD all anew. Any other way is just going to cause hassles trust me.
