Infrared Heater - flaming thru plaque

Procom 3brick 15k heater has worked many seasons without problems........now seems to have too much "fire" in front of brick when on (normally used on low with center brick glowing)........used to just glow red, but can actually see flames out in front of area now.......sound normal or something to be concerned with?

    I have the same problem and my heater is only 1 year old. It looks like a blue flame heater instead of a radiant heater.

I had this problem. From using the center brick most of the time, lots of dust bunnies build up in the gas chimney behind the brick.
Tie 2 pipe cleaners together with a small perpendicular circle at the top and carefully remove the dust bit by bit by twirling the cleaner.
The brick should fire like new if it is carefully cleaned out.

Sounds like your brick needs to be replaced. They are porous and if they get clogged over time, the fire will float over, instead of flow through the bricks.

Why does the heater turn off?

If it's thermostatically controlled, if shuts off the burner when it reaches the set temperature. Is the pilot flame going out too? These heaters require a certain amount of fresh air to operate properly. If the oxygen level gets too low, it is designed to shut off completely for your safety.

My glo warm plaq doesnt glow red but has flame.thanks

The plaque may be out of place or may need replacing, depending on the age of the heater.
Also, although you have flame, make sure you have flame at that plaque that's equal to the other plaques. If you don't the burner may simply need cleaning.

Sometimes when my gas plaque infrared gas space heater comes on a ball of loud flame bursts out in front of one of the plaques instead of lighting up the plaque. What causes this only occasionally? How can...

It sounds like a delayed ignition- and YES!-- that could be dangerous if something flammable was nearby, and no one was around to make sure the fire did not start something int he room on fire!

Trouble shooting delayed ignition:

Does this heater use a glowing ignitor to ight?

Or a standing pilot?

Or a spark?

I suspect that whatever is supposed to light the gas burner, is not in the path of the first gas release, (when the gas valve Opens) and so it takes a bit for the gas to build up, and finally get around to the source of ignition-- and then WHOOSH!!-- all that extra gas ignites!

Can you see the ignitor as it goes thru its first firing cycle-- what do you notice about the ignitor?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Something to consider:
What prevents it from filing the room with gas, before it ignites!
Sounds mighty dangerous to me!
I am getting fumes from my heater. The flame seems to be to high. The plaques are red but the flame flickers above them.
A couple things to look at are the plaques their self. Are they clean and unobstructed? Are the plaques seated in the holders firmly? Try this little hint and it may help you out. You will need a compressor and blow gun then remove the plaques. Once removed blow compressed air backwards thru the plaques making sure that all holes are clear, go over them two to three times just to make sure they are good and clean. Now reinstall them being careful to seat them properly, now try firing the heater back up and it should burn clean and hot just like it did when it was new.
You may want to try Master Parts, they may have the plaques. The problem with replacing the plaques is that they can be expenise to replace. Sometimes its the same price just to replace the total unit.
Vent free infared heater
What you are experiencing is common if the plaques are either out of alignment or the burner is dirty. I know you said you cleaned it with low pressure air, but you need at least 120 PS. of air to clean the burner and plaques as per the owners manual.
