Hi lbeaujuin,

You don't say how long this has been going on; I'm going to presume it's a recent development.

Several possible scenarios come to mind. I'd first look around and see if any other appliances have been connected to that circuit. In my area (Minnesota), the electrical code requires that microwaves have their own dedicated circuit and breaker; if this is not the case, you need to see what else is competing with your microwave for that breaker's power supply.

One other possible cheap fix - in case the breaker is defective, try swapping out the breaker in-question for another of the same rating (DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT put in a bigger/higher-rated breaker without having a qualified electrician OK it). If this isn't the problem, it never hurts to have a spare circuit breaker on-hand. Might even be able to switch around with another of the same rating, just understand that you'll lose power to both circuits for the duration of the test.

If it's on it's own dedicated circuit, then it's likely the oven itself with an internal short of some kind. Because I don't know your level of skill in dealing with 110V AC electricity, my recommendation is that you have someone qualified open it up and start checking short-circuits with a multi-meter, observing all safety precautions.

If you've isolated the problem to being the oven, and it's going to cost more to troubleshoot than replace, you might be able to cut a deal by trading-in your old oven against the new one - - if the shop you buy from has quailfied repair people on-staff, they might be able to refurb and re-sell it used.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "FixYa" rating from everyone I help.

Microwave keeps tripping circuit breaker

Chances are you have a shorted "monitor" interlock switch, or its mount is broken.

See this door switch help file.

Where is the second fuse in my panasonic nn-s963bf the one for the heating and what does it look like?

There is no second fuse. Look for a thermal cutoff there are a few of those. Test it for open circuit and replace.

Panasonic nn-s255 wont turn on

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt , http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt and http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Microwave causes GFCI on another circuit to trip

You may have a shorted High voltage component. Possibly a recttifier, aka, diode. This should only be replaced by an experienced repairman as an extremely high voltage shock potential exists.
