No, the 450 is just one of those machines that seem to have PCQ no matter what you do. Given light copies, I'd replace the drum for sure and make sure your ID sensor isn't covered with toner. Dust covered optics will also cause light copies on this model.

If the image is good in parts, but light in others it is most often toner build up on the laser exposure glass which can be easily -but also VERY CAREFULLYremoved. If you lift the green handle for the toner bottle, you should see a narrow piece of glass protruding just underneath. You can grasp it with you fingers and slide it out for cleaning. Sometimes these have been removed (or broken) so they are not there. If the machine is also a printer, you should see much improvement (if this was the cause). If regular copying is still light in areas, then you may want to remove the copier glass - 2 screws on left scale, and 3 screws on rear scale (POWER OFF ON MACHINE), remove glass and clean with glass cleaner, then slide scanner to the left and clean the mirrors. Hope this helps.
When developer goes bad you use more toner for one thing, but the main sign is a gray background in your copy. The print should be black but appears to be gray. The ricoh 350/450 was always noted to leak toner and developer as it runs. Check your machine and see if you see any small piles of toner, which also has developer in it, in the machine. Ther are small seals made of felt that need to be replaced if you have this problem. These seals rub against the drum sides....Good luck.
