I'm gonna guess and say the connector is a plug-in type? You'll be happy to hear that YES! all data is safe (or sould be)
You simply have to open the case, disconnect the HDD from the existing controller PCB. 1 of the connectorsis a opaque plastic PLUG with 4 thick wires (12v, Gnd, Gnd and +5v) and will have to be 'teased off' by pulling straight out and wiggling side to side, and the other is a slide-on,Black or Grey 40Pin Flatwire IDE or much smaller 8-Pin SATA connector. You can simply install it in another USB carrier of the same type (IDE/SATA) or your desktop as a spare drive. Empty USB HDD Carriers are avail from MicroCenter for $20.00 Let me know how you get on or if you need further assist.

How do I get data off verbatim 160 gb hard drive that the mini usb port broke off?

Your best bet is to buy a donor drive of the same make/model, remove the circuit board and install it on your broken drive - get your data but don't try to continue to use it after that because it will
fail.

I accidentaly broke the input on my toshiba canvio 3.0 portable hard drive

my personal solution to this isnt somthing most people would try ever but i do it all the time for people with broken flashdrives. if its anything like what ive dealt with. just find the seam or skrews keeping it together and take the whole thing apart, if its a normaly a small laptop like hard drive it will most likely have a sata connection and will be easy enough to connect directly as a slave to your computer and you can pull all the information off if it. if it isnt like most other hard drives then you may need to find a connector like it off of ebay. if you dont feel comforable doing this. find someone who is

Hi there,

Yes you can just take the hard drive out of the case, can use it with any other case, you can also just put it inside your computer and connect it to the sata cable :)

Segate UBS hard drive with broken USB port

Solution:

i) i would wisely suggest you not to open the compartment of harddisk, try taking it to nearest repair centre since these part are very delicate(like they have delicated soldering ...or components....)

i would suggest not messup with the broken parts and loose your whole harddisk ..............

Usb is broken on hard drive

Do a web search for data recovery.they are high priced but will attempt to recover all info. Most will place recovered data on a brand new harddrive at no additional cost.Suggest picking several and calling prior to mailing. RICHARDM69
