No Power to Dell 5100 desk top

My son had used the PC and powered it down, 2 days later I went to use it and it would not turn on. I took it to an IT person at my job and he tried 2 different power cords and neither of them worked. He then figured that I had a bad power supply. Please assist looking for another one. The warranty expired.

I can do it for you but I need your Service Tag#. This is located either on the side or bottom of your PC case on a stick on note. Dell is able to provide hardware specifically on your computer based on the service tag#. Or if you have access to another computer you can go to the Dell website, click on support and it will automatically ask for your Tag#. A summary of all the hardware on your computer, to include, wattage for you power supply. The power supply must match exactly, too much power will ruin your motherboard, too little power will not be able to power up all of your peripherals.

Don't forget to 4 star this solution.

Unplug PC, then re-attach. Power connectors are interchangeable as long as they fit. Many power supply's don't even mark them. Meaning you can use anyone. Including any spares for later expansion.

How do you do a cold boot on a dell desk top model Inspiron 530? The computer will not boot up

Hmmm....you press the power button on the front of the case. I am not sure what you need exactly. If the computer has had a different power supply installed there could also be a power switch on the back of the case.

If everything is plugged in correctly and you don't hear fans or hard drive sounds, you most likely need a new power supply.

Depending on how long the power was off, your desktop power supply circuit capacitors may have fully discharged during the power outage. This will effect how fast your computer will turn on when you press the power button. Turning off the power by pulling the cord, or a power outage while the computer was on will usually result in a message that Windows was not shut down down properly when you try to restart it. Also make sure your computer isn't plugged into a 'switched' receptacle that's wired to turn on a table lamp etc from a wall switch. It's usually the bottom half of the receptacle that's switched while the top plug is always 'hot' or powered and unswitched in a wall switch controlled recepacle situatation.

I turned on my Dell Dimension 4700 computer, but the amber light started to blink . I held the start up button for 5 seconds and the light went out. I tried to start it up again and got the same thing,...

Vaughn it sounds like the power supply is going bad, try another known good working power supply. If that doesn't work then the motherboard would need to be replaced. If the power supply isn't giving the correct voltages that could cause the computer not to turn on. If the motheboard isn't able to convert the voltages properly then the motherboard could be faulty.

No power to Dell demension 5100 desktop

If there is no activity whatsoever when you press the power button on than you have likely blown the internal power supply fuse. This will need a technician to repair.

Dell Dimension 5100 power up problem

I had same issue with dimension 5100 Desktop. I work at Circuit City as the Lead Technician. I found that swapping the power supply did fix the problem! When i initially tested the power supply with a standard power supply tester, the power supply appeared normal. But after swapping the PC works great. Thx for the good idea!
