I have an epson 610 workforce "all-in-one" printer/scanner/copier/fax machine. Upon powering it on, I get an error message, "A printer error has occurred," and says to turn off and back on. That doesn't help. I have tried all the suggestions on the epson troubleshooting website, but I'm still getting the error. It appears that the light bar pulley is not working properly to move the light bar back into position. It tries, which makes a clicking sound. It moves just slightly, stops, and the error appears again.

Try this as a last ditch effort. Remove the software. Reboot the computer and come off line. Disable the Anti Virus program. Now install the soft ware. Then try. If the red light still flashes then assume it is new scanner time.

Sorry to say, if there is no power - then that's it! Nothing else you can do other than replacing the unit. To be honest, a 3-year lifespan out of any inkjet printer is typical.

Try a different copy of OS or in a Different M/C.

The only thing that usually causes a scanner error of this type is either a scanner failure or the transport lock. Locate the lock and make sure it is in the unlocked position. Lock and unlock a few times leaving it in the unlocked position then power the scanner off and on again.
