Min Kota Trolling Motor Model RT/B?hc Riptide. Problem won't run

Trolling motor won't run at variable speeds. When connecting the tag-air switch the motor runs well but runs at a very high speed. Will run in forward and reverse position. The handle assembly will not respond when activating variable speeds but motor does run in forward and reverse modes but again at the max speed.

I recieved your answer to replace the speed regulator. Is their another name for this part such as Control Board assemble # 2344007 or part actuator cam # 2302850. My owners manual does not list a speed regulator on any of the diagrams.

Recieved your answer to my problem Replace the speed regulator.. I am unable to find this part listed in my parts list, does the speed reglator have another name.

I am actully supprised at the answer you have submitted to my problem. I may have been expecting a more detailed answer, more like a actual name of the part with a possible part number per MinKota's part listing manual, and possibly some hint as how to replace the part, with a guestimate pricing, I quess I may have been expecting to much from a paid professional service. I'll leave you to ponder my disapointment, and may not be inclined to use this service in the future.

I posted a problem regarding my Min Kota trolling motor and the problem with the motor not responding to the variable speeds, the answer to my problem was to replace the speed regulator. I am unable to find this part in the Min Kota parts manual. A guess I was expecting a more detailed answer to my problem, more of a response with the actuall Min kota part number and a hint as to how to replace the part, I did pay for the service of FixYa problem and not "well go ahead and do that and it should be fine. Can you quide some parts numbers, possible cost and a hint as to how it should be replaced, or is that not part of your service...

Riptide control boards are (1) fully encapsulated in marine-grade urethane to protect the electronic circuitry. All electrical connections are sealed with (2) liquid-tight heat shrink tubing to form an impregnable barrier against the destructive effects of saltwater.
You will be unable to repair the rheostat speed controller without compromising the integrity of the rest of the components. Your factory authorized dealer is the only one that can service this properly.
It may not be the answer you want to hear - but it is the correct one.

Many times on the battery lead, actually the part that tightens to the battery, has a circuit breaker. You will notice a small reset button on each positive lead....of course there are two for a 24v system. Reset each one!

Minn kota will turn on and off with remote, but will only turn 1" to each side.

take off the top cover on the head of the motor and see if there are any restrictions to the movement of the cable. it may be the cable itself is rusted internally and may need replacement. call min kota on the 800 number on the motor for prices for any patrs you may need.

Here is a picture of the wire connection for 24 volt. Compare to yours is it correct? If it is, I wish you listed make and model I could of sent you the right picture diagram of you motor. Use this picture as a starting point. Test the wires through the motor testing for 24 volts. Again if I knew make and model I could show you exactly were. Last if voltage is correct all the way through. The motor is the last thing to tear down. If the brushes or armeture is damaged in anyway, or manufactured wrong, it would lead to power loss.

Burning out fuses on trolling motor at battery

not enough info. I went the the min kota website, they show four maxxum 80's at different voltages.is it a 12v 24v or larger? without a year model I'll have no reference to what wiring schematic Is the fuse connected inline with the trolling motor? what size amp fuse are you burning up? well I can give you some troubleshooting tips. tools to buy (1) amp gauge. if you are unfamilier with amp gauges make sure you get instruction book with gauge or you could burn yourself. Toubleshooting(1) Remove cover off minn kota trolling motor. black cover ontop of unit were the foot control wires go into.turn over foot control remove cover (2) check for corrosion. any exposed terminals should be cleaned.(3) go to your batteries and clean all connections. make sure the batteries are fully charged.(4) take amp gauge and test positive wire for amp draw as you tun on trollling motor and run it through all speeds. if batteries are in the rear away from trolling motor get a 2nd person to control trolling motor. if the trolling motor is more than a 12v system you will have more than one positive lead to test.GOAL. What your trying to find out is how many amps the trolling motor is really pulling. and at what speeds. under a load in the water and out of the water.how many more amps than the fuse raiting? newer trolling motors come with inline breakers not fuses so I'm guessing your using 30 amp fuses. again without more info i can only guess.
