IBM xseries 205, Model 8480-43X Memory upgrade an POST BEEP

Hello, I use a IBM server xseries 205, model 8480-43x with momentary 512MB of memory installed. I bought 2gigs of IBM ecc DDR ram (2100, 266Mhz, CL 25. and so on) for my server and installed this memory. when switching on the server, I got a beep like three times three beeps and my server doesnt boot no more. Switching off and on again doesnt solve the problem, even resetting the cmos with 3V-battery removed and the jumper for cmos resetting switched doesnt help.
I have no idea...

hi! Did you solved yours? Having the same situation here. Tried a 1GB 266MHZ IBM PC2100 ECC CL2.5 DDR ram on it and it deeps 3 times during boot and no more. Which BIOS version your X205 have? I see the latest one on IBM website is v1.53. I haven't check mine yet but I assume it won't be the latest one. I suggest I will try v1.53 to see if that help.

Those beeps mean that your RAM is not functioning. Are you sure you got the right upgrade type. Sometimes it'll fit into socket but won't work because of speed. Or just try reseating the modules.

Error three short beeps and three times

Hello,

Most of the time this is a memory error code. Have you added new memory cards? Sometime the cards are not seated well, are the incorrect placement (cards need to be in pairs)

Check that and post your results. Good Luck.

Do this model supporsts win xp service pack 2

Hi.

This unit has a Pentium 4 2GHz single core processor, and does support Windows XP SP2.

The standard memory installed on this unit was 256KB RAM, in order to run XP efficently you will need to upgrade the RAM. I suggest upgrading RAM to the maximum amount allowed of 2 GB RAM.

To upgrade the RAM to 2 GB you will need 2 modules of 1GB PC2100 184 pin DIMM ECC each.

What kind of memory for IBM XEON xseries 226 need 4 gigs. help

First, find out exactly what is in it now.
Google "CPUZ"
Download the zip file and extract it.
Run the program and it will provide the exact speed, size and slot locations of your installed memory modules.
Then contact a major memory vendor such as Crucial.com or Kingston.com
Let them know what you have in your server and they will tell you how to get to 4GB.
One more thing, make sure that you have the absolute latest BIOS installed. BIOS updates frequently include support for faster memory. Get the BIOS from IBM's website. You will need the exact model number. It should be on the front of the case by the serial number.

Vote for this solution if it helps.
