Question about Dell 4100MP Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I can't tell positive from negative

The bulb in my dell 4100mp just burnt out, i tried to get a new one but all that i could get was the bare bulb itself. i still have all the screws and peices of the previous housing, but now i need to connect the wires to the new bulb, but i can't tell which wire is for the positive terminal and which one is for the negative terminal. the wires are not marked (yet).

i would really rather not leave it to the gods of chance.

if you could tell me relative to the connector that plugs into the projector that'd help a great deal, i have the plug facing me with the rounded sides up.... which is the wire is which?

I don't believe there is a difference,  maybe wrong but... it's nice when service manuals are available

Basically yes, any wire that is not insulated can cause a short.
Your bike engine, frame and all parts fixed to them are at negative potential.
Lights work by switching the positive side of the circuit through the filament of the bulb and connecting to the negative.
The resistance in the bulb filament creates light. Any bare wire or connection that holds a positive potential if it contacts with engine, frame, or another wire, will blow either a fuse or could damage regulator, ecu, or other expensive to replace electrical component. Keep all wire insulated bare wires cause grief.

Will not power on

when you plug it in does the stand by light come on?
or when you press the power button does it not start up.

what you can try to do is reseat the bulb and try again, sometimes if the bulb isn't inserted properly or is slightly off will not work.

and for Kensington locks are for security purposes when displaying an item.

i.e. attach one end to table and the other to laptop

The 4100mp dell projector will kick off about 5 minutes after bing turned on. I read somthing about a filter possiblly being cleaned.

Try to reset the lamp hour of your projector. For that do the following.
1. power on the projector.
2. Press the menu button
3. select lamp settings
4. Select lamp reset
5. Select yes to reset the lamp hour.

Won't start

It is usually marked on the casing. +(or a red marker around the pole) is positive. If you havent removed the battery connect a bulb between one of the poles a piece of bare metal (ie engine). If the bulb lights up you're on the positive. If you have already removed the battery use a multimeter and measure voltage across the poles on the battery, if the meter gives a positive reading the red test lead is on the positve. If it gives a negative reading ie -12.35V(digital meter) the red is on negative. If you have an analogue meter(a meter using a needle) it will swing to the left when red lead is on neg.
