For sure, the file system is corrupted and is the cause of your woes. The fix lies with the Philips Songbird software. If you do not have Songbird, download it for Windows or Mac here: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/mp3-media-player/22126/cat/en/#/difference/philipssongbird.

Once you have Songbird installed, launch it and select "Repair my Philips device" in the Tools menu. Select your device and follow the instructions specific to your device. For example, instructions for the GoGear Vibe are to disconnect the device, power it down completely, and hold the volume-up key during and after USB connection until the message window disappears.

If the repair utility endlessly indicates it is checking for updates, you are likely using an out-of-date version of Songbird - probably the one that came with your GoGear. If this describes your situation, launch Songbird and select "Check for updates" in the Help menu. This will at least get you upgraded to version 1.9 (currently), even though the latest version is 1.11 (currently).

Instructions that came with some older versions for connecting GoGear in repair mode were incomplete. They left out a crucial step of turning off the GoGear and waiting for it to power down completely before reconnecting in repair mode. Newer versions of Songbird include the ability to reformat the device, reset the device, and to get progress updates during synchronization.

The file system error problem cannot be corrected - you can run a Repair or an Update in the Philips Device Manager and you will see that it will be unsuccessful - call Philips and get an in-warranty replacement while you still can. The newer Philips players use Windows Explorer as the transfer method - it doesn't hide the system files, so if you delete a system file instead of a music file, you get the system file error. Sorry.

Sir i have my iriver mp3 player for more than 3 years it was working very fine but last year. when ever i start it it shows me file check error. and it runs the radio very flawlessly but there i cannopt...

Sounds like a corrupt file system. Assuming you are using Windows, If you can view the disk in My Computer, right click on the drive, select properties, tools tab, in the error checking option select check now.
You may also be able to format the drive by right clicking on the mp3 player's hdd and selecting format, then quick format. Copy any music you wish to keep though on a separate drive as format will erase it.

When i switch on my archos 405 2gb it comes recovery code 102. it gives three options ''no'' ''repair'' and ''format''. i clicked on repair but it restarts and it comes the same thing again. What am i...

I think it means 'File system FAT error'. Use the solution above by IPOD tech for reformatting the hard disk. It should be OK. I used the solution to reformat my archos7 last night, and it is working fine.

I had this very same problem. To fix this problem you have to re-flash your RCA MP3 player with the following file: http://download.rca.com/download/RD1022_28_72_76FWUpgrade_v1002.exe My RCA Model RD 1072a as worked fine since flashing the player with this file.
