Question about Acer Aspire One Netbook 8.9" Notebook
When I turn it on it shuts off almost immediately.
Mine did the same thing -- noticed the fan wasn't running at all during bootup when the shutdown problem was occurring. Tapping the bottom ofthe case near the fan got the fan running and it booted fine after that. It happened twice in about a year's time and both times this fix worked. I'll probably take it apart soon and clean out the fan.

I just fixed this problem. My fan was not running. Mine would only stay on for about 60-90 seconds. I had to disassemble it and used compressed air on the exhaust fan that covers the CPU. I also tightened the screws on the heatsink to make sure it was getting good thermal contact, and made sure the fan was well connected. All is well. Use one of the guides to "upgrade RAM" to take it apart, then once you're in, clean the fan and make sure it's hooked up.

Try removing the battery and connecting the AC adapter then see if it boots up.
Reinstall the battery and keep the AC adapter connected and see if it boots up, if so leave it charge the battery for several hours.
If none of these work, get a replacement as there is a more segnificant problem.
I hope this helps.

You may have a bad processor and it is over heating,or the over heating may be due to a dirty fan, which keeps the processor cooled off.Look under the laptop and see if you can get a peek where the fan is,to determine if it is actually dirty:)
