Question about Garmin Rino 120 2-Way Radio

1 Answer

Waypoint selection uses last location instead of current location

Bought rino 120 this fall. Worked very well for about two months. Then waypoints started acting oddly. In setting a waypoint, it now enters the data from the last location it was active. Must create addnl point to get the current location. Example; went xc skiing, set waypoint at start of trail, instead of 3,000' elev it showed 450' (my home). Had to enter addnl waypoint to get the correct elevation. Grateful for any insight. Thanks in advance.

How come the garmin 120 radio isn't compatible with standard Motorola walkie talkies

When programmed to the same frequency and code settings the Garin Rino 120 should match the Motorola TalkAbout line of radios. They are all using the same UHF FRS/GMRS frequencies. Here is a link to the Garmin user guide where you will find the frequency charts on pgs. 100-102: http://www.uky.edu/~jmlhot2/courses/for480/Rino120_OwnersManual.pdf
Motorola TalkAbout user guides can be found at: http://shop.giantintl.com/Manuals.asp
Best regards.

Reboot

Hold the navigation stick and page button down while powering up. A dialog will ask if you want to delete all data. push yes.

A backup of your waypoints, routes, and tracks it nice to have if you wish to save them.

Rino 120 - Disabled WAAS

Have you upgraded from Software version 3.2? Version 3.3 addresses a memory overflow problem when receiving two or more WAAS satellites.

By reading a number of forums, I've found that there was a WAAS satelitte update (bug), that causes this foul up.
The only solution I've been able to arrive at is DISABLE the WAAS feature, as no Garmin Update/patch (for Rino120) has been made available.
To shutoff the WAAS feature press your [Page] button until you arrive at the "Main Menu"
go down until your on the "Setup"(hammer)
go in (by pressing in, on the directional button)
go down until your on the "System"(gears)
go in (by pressing in, on the directional button)
go down until your on WAAS, go in and select the Disabled
go up to the "X" (top right) press it, then you can [Page] button anywhere you want from there.

Wonder what WAAS is?

Take care.

PS- Garmin if you read this....I would like to have my WAAS back, and since I registered for updates, back in 2005, why didn't I get an email from you telling me about this issue (when it happened and provide a solution - at the same time :: even a work around as I've posted here)

Batteries in my Rino 120 don't last very long

I believe its 3AA's and it SHOULD last 15 hrs of life. You should probably check the terminal heads and clean them real good you might be shorting somewhere in the connection.
