Re: Document feed Scanner Glass Scratched
If the scratch is not to deep you can polish it out with lots of
elbow grease and cigarette ashes. Their are also products n the market to polish scratches out of glass. A really light rubbing compound like for 3M might work.

Try scanning a few documents in full size mode (scannerrs maximum), If you observe a line in the same location in all images, you can conclude that there is either a scratch in the glass (due to stapler pins) or dirt stuck firmly. Try cleaning with Isopropyl alcohol. For absolute emergency, you can wet a cotton bud in after shave and clean the right spot, take care not to touch any other part other than the glass. If glass is scratched, you need to replace it. S. Mohan, Chennai, India
A black line down a scanned page indicates a dirty scan glass. Lift the top of you scanner like you would putting a page or book down to scan. On the end of the scanner that has the document feeder you should see a thin piece of glass the is separate from the larger glass pane. This is the document feeder glass. Now check it over for a very small mark of ink or dirt. You can use regular glass cleaner to wipe this glass just spray it on a piece of cloth not the scanner then wipe. You may have to wipe and then try scanning several times if the ink or marker is died on. while you are cleaning you should also clean the main glass pane, it will make the scans clearer and crisper.

The staples cannot reach the sensors. They could have scratched the glass above the sensors. Clean the glass with IsoPropyl alcohol. Try scanning a few images to find if the scratch marks are on the same place on all images. Once confirmed that the glass is scratched, you can change the glass. You need a technical expertise to change or call service staff.
There is a spot on the thin strip of glass that sits next to the large scanner glass. Because you are moving the paper when using the feeder, a spot appears as a line. Shining a flashlight on the glass can help you locate it. You can scrape it off with a finger nail or clean it with a damp cloth.
