Monitor flicker When the monitor fires up in Safe mode, the screen is fine. When the monitor is fired up in standard Windows 7 mode and past the password entry there are times when the monitor comes in real messy. At other times the monitor looks normal and will work fine for a while then for some unknown reason turns messy. What is going on?

Have you updated any software, drivers, any hardware changed? Have you reseated the monitor cables? Changed the resolution? When it's in safe mode the resolution is different, you can check it in Display Properties, by right clicking an open area on the disktop and selecting Screen Resolution, then boot to normal desktop, check screen resolution.

SOURCE: Black screen comes up "windows

You should opt Safe Mode:

  • On the black screen just navigate throug up and down arrow keys.
  • Goto Safe Mode and press enter.
  • It will boot your system in safe mode.
If the boot is success full:
  • try to remember any software or hardware you recently installed/change. Then remove/uninstall that software/hardware. Also remove some device driver like Video/Audio driver and make re-start. and try to normal boot. If success then install your audio/video.
If no success then I think its time to re-install your windows.
Please post your feed-back.

SOURCE: PC won't Start windows normally

You can attempt to undo this through the use of System Restore.

I am going to assume you are on Windows XP, So start your computer in safe mode without networking.

Once you are in the desktop you are going to use System Restore. Choose a date in time on your computer before the incident happened.

For more information on the system restore utility go here:

Note : If you have Windows Vista ,read about this utility here:

SOURCE: windows will not start up

choose start windows in Safe mode, if it starts then everything will look big, don't worry about that for now. Then go to Start>accessories>system Tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that everything was working normally, when it has finished restoring the computer will restart. If asked choose start windows normally.

I hope this helps

Screen crashed to flickering gray screen

Try a roll back of the Graphics driver. Have you done any Graphic Updates? Install the driver from the DELL or Windows Update website. Does it work with a external monitor? When you boot in safe mode your machine uses the Basis graphics driver. Is the monitor OK when you boot in safe mode?

My monitor says input not supported

Hi there,

Monitor says 'input not supported', means the computer is sending an incompatible display mode to your monitor. Please check the user’s manual for supported display mode or input and configure your computer to those settings. The recommended setting for LCD panel is 1024x768 resolution and you may need to change the refresh rate of the monitor to 60Hz.
In Safe Mode, fire uop regedit and ry going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display and delete that whole key (yes, this bascially will remove your video drivers) then reboot, when you reboot windows should start up in standard VGA mode and prompt you for the video card drivers.

Hp pavilion f1703 flashes on and off. Tried pushing F8 for 30 seconds - no result.

have you checked the power connecter at the back of the monitor?

is it the whole PC that is flashing on and off or JUSTr the monitor?

the F8 key when turning on a Windows based PC, will only take you to a screen to choose how to start windows, in Normal mode, safe mode, or commandline mode.

none of this helps a flickering screen.

try and change out the data cable (VGA cable, blue screw in plug) and the power cable if possible.

Monitor goes blank

Try restarting the computer in Safe Mode and then check. In case it flickers in Safe Mode too, then the LCD screen might be damaged and you might need to replace it.

Annoying Nuisance on the monitor

Run your system in 'Safe Mode'. Go to Display settings and set lowest possible resolution. Then restart computer and run windows again in normal mode. Should have normal screen. If this will not work - then under safe mode uninstall graphic card. Then run windows with standard ones and in LOWEST possible resolution install drivers again. I have had it many times and it made swear first time.
