Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer
I had the water off and then forgot to turn it on before starting the washer. The washer ran and then there was FH error, which I found out means no water. Now it won't cancel out or let me open the door. Can you help me?
I had the same problem. The manual is useless and hitting the pase/reset button did nothing for me. The wife called the help line and they said they would be out on Monday at $75.00 to check it out. Oh, but the good part is that the $75.00 would go towards the part (if needed). If you forget to turn the water on, and the washer stops working, it seems that it should be smart enough to shut off and continue working when water is put back on.
Anyway, knowing that nothing was broken I decided to pull off the cover. Disconnect the power cord 1st. You ill need a "star" type screwdriver (its a 6 pointed tip). Probably a couple dollars at the local hardware dept. Take the 3 screws off located on the back/top of the cover. Slide the cove back & then pull it off. I then plugged the washer back in. Same humming noise & still locked. I pulled off the connector labeled "D P 21". It is located near the middle of the CPU box and it has 2 black wires coming out from it. You should have the humming noise stop. Wait a few minutes to see if the washer shuts down. If it does then the door will be unlocked. I then had the wife start a new cycle and all is well.
*Note: If you unplug D P 21 and after a few minutes it still doesn't shut off, try pressing the reset button twice and wait again.
Sears can now kiss my **** for wanting to charge me $75.00 for something that was never broken!

The following link explains the "FH" error:
This can be a rather tough one to figure out, even with the error code explanation. I would recommend unplugging the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes first. This will reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code reappears, check your washer installation to rule out the easiest possiblities, first. This means checking to ensure you don't have a siphoning condition, checking your drain lines and checking to ensure your fill hoses aren't kinked or clogged. Read through the link thoroughly and let me know if you have questions. I hope this helps you.

Tips for a great answer:
Jan 27, 2016 | Washing Machines
Look for the "Pause/Cancel" button on the washer control panel. The button will be below the digital time clock and to the lower right of the wash cycle selector.
Press the "Pause/Cancel" button twice to cancel the wash cycle. Unplug the Kenmore Elite washer from the wall outlet.
Check for kinks in the water supply hose while the washer does not have power. Turn off the water supply spigots and remove the hoses from the back of the washer. Check the port screens at the hose connections for sediment buildup and clean as necessary.
Connect the water supply hoses back to the washer and turn on the water spigots. Plug the washer cord back into the wall outlet.
Select the wash cycle and press the "Start" button.
If the error code come back you will probably have to change the water inlet valves. No hard to do and you can fdo this yourself
