Question about Microsoft Zune JS8-00001 Digital Media Player

Open Question

Zune 80 plays, charges but won't sync

This is my 3rd Zune 80 device I have had the problem on. After several months of perfect operation, when I try to sync the device the PC won't recognize the device. Other Zune devices sync so I know it isn't my PC, or the cable. I've rebooted the device and even wiped the device so it has to be reinitialized by the PC. I still can't sync the device to the PC.

I get no activity when I try to connect the device. When I leave the device connected by cable and reboot the device connected, my PC reports 'USB not recognized' popup window.

Since my device is 13 months old, Microsoft wants $160 to repair the device. Even though I had this device repaired by them for the same problem 7 months ago, they only warranty that service for 90 days and I am now 1 month out of my warranty and they won't sell me the $60 1 year warranty extension.

I've noticed there are 3rd parties that repair Zunes for less than this, although I don't think this is a hardware problem. I "think" this is some software bug (since it has happened in all 3 devices and I've seen others online with the same problem).

Can anyone tell me exactly what the problem is and what I need to do to fix it? I am very good with hardware so I could open up the device and replace parts if it comes to that.

Thanks for the help!

Well it hasent happened to mine yet and ive had mine 6 months, so hopefully it wont because ive lost the two year warrenty. try draining the battery untill its dead then let it sit a day aferward to clear any memory processes it might be something that windows doesnt like so it wont let it in. If its giving a no driver window, did you install the zune software? Its got to be something with the drivers.

SOURCE: usb device not recognized when i plug in my zune

do you have the software installed? or a older version installed? if so that could be your problem with the drivers. try downloading the zune 3.0 software directly from the zune website instead of updating ,  here is the link to the download page

http://www.zune.net/en-us/software/download/default.htm
Make sure you uninstall any previous zune software first!
Hope this Helps

My Zune 4gb won't sync with my software and will not charge

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my 30GB Zune. The first normal solution is to make sure that the USB port is providing enough power to the Zune to charge it by trying a different port or computer, but since your other Zune charges it is likely not the problem.

Other possibly solutions are performing a hard reset on the Zune (hold back and up until it resets), or allowing the zone to completely discharge and try again. In my case, none of these solutions worked and I was forced to send my Zune in for a new battery, which Microsoft was willing to replace for free.

Zune will not turn on

1. If the Zune device is not connected to a power source, set the Hold switch to unlocked. Then, press and hold the Play/Pause button to turn off the device. • If this does not work, restart the device. To restart the device, set the Hold switch to the unlocked position, and then press and hold the Back button zune_button_back.gif as you press the top of the Zune Pad. When the device begins to reset, you can release the buttons. 2. If the Zune device is connected to a power source, it is operating correctly. You cannot manually turn off the Zune device. Note Depending on how you configured your backlight setting, the backlight for the Zune device may automatically turn off in this situation. To access the backlight options, select display on the settings menu, and then press the center of the Zune pad. To adjust the setting, select backlight, and then press the center of the Zune pad.

Want to put music back on my zune,it wouldn't sinc,

May have to reset the zune to factory default settings...

Try this....
Reset Zune: Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the control pad.
Connect Zune to a power source: If the Zune device is in sleep mode, this action will wake the Zune device and turn it on. If the battery does not have a charge, you may have to wait several minutes for the Zune device to turn on.

Also, make sure that the hold button on top of your zune is turned to the off position.

Hope this helps!

As a last resort or if you are receiving error code C00D2772, erase the device, and then sync your content again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Zune software on the computer.
  2. Connect your Zune device by using the Zune Sync Cable.
  3. Click Settings, and then click device.
  4. Click SYNC OPTIONS, and then click ERASE ALL CONTENT.
  5. When you receive the following message, click Yes: Please Confirm. Are you sure you want to erase the contents of the connected Zune? You receive the "Erase All Content" message. This may take several minutes. Do not move or disconnect the Zune device until the message disappears.

Downloading podcasts

On your computer, you can set your podcasts to sync to your Zune automatically or one at a time by dragging them to the device icon.
SET PODCAST SYNC OPTIONS
  1. In the Zune software, click the device icon, then click Settings, Podcasts.
  2. Choose your podcast sync settings.
What and how you want to sync is completely up to you. You can choose to:
  • Sync all downloaded episodes.
  • Sync all unplayed or partially played episodes.
  • Sync only the first unplayed episode. This setting saves a lot of space—only one episode lives on your Zune at any time.
  • Don't sync any episodes.

You have to use the proprietary Zune software to sync podcasts - the instructions are vague, so I would go to the Zune support forum to get further instructions on this:
