Scanner will not power up

This problem came up before, and after I left the scanner turned off for a few days it fixed itself. This time, it powered down while I had it turned on for a couple of hours, and it won't come back up. I took the cover off the end close to the power plug and did a few rudimentary voltage tests. The switch and fuse are fine.

I have had a blown bulb before. When the bulb has blown, the paper drive mechanism still worked. This time the drive will not work. Would a bad capacitor(s) create a previously intermittent problem? Or would it just fail and be done with it?

Are there any wide-format scanner repair shops in the Phoenix area since CalComp GTCO closed down? Repairing the power supply unit may be too much of a challenge for my limited electronic skills.

Good wide format scanners cost several thousand $$--even used ones. I want to try to fix this one.

I will take a look at the boards and capacitors. Thanks.

On the main board og the scanner there are white cables connected any 1 out them can be faulty that needs replacement.also check out for the bulged capacitor or leaked capacitor on the circuit board.

Its just the faulty circuit of the scanner.the circuit is blown.and it needs to be checked with a meter to get the faulty capacitor.its a costly issue.as if its too old replacing the scanner is good choise.

Test also the bulb, if the bulb has blown, then it is likely a fault on the board that powers the bulb with ac.

If the bulb is ok, you need to test the psu capacitors , and fix the power supply circuit, or if this is on a separate board, replace the board.

Also test power cord , and try a different AC socket.

"When the bulb has blown, the paper drive mechanism still worked" :

I know it , I told you : " if the bulb has blown, then it is likely a fault on the board that powers the bulb with ac"

You have read only first three world from my post.

Regarding the repair, it is better not to repair a scanner like this just anywhere.

Call l Fred Bryant at GTCO : 480-443-2262 they will send you an onsite engineer from nearest repair point.

Also ask information about getting a service contract.
Repairs for this machine are expensive.

    Here is GTCO contact page:

Addon: regarding the bad capacitor, yes, the intermittent faults that at start you fix by unplugging, and then prevent unit from starting can be typical of a capacitior starting to fail, then failing completely on a power board.

First test the main PSU, that is most likely, then test the inverter board that is powering up the lamp, a badly shorted inverter can cause shutdown.

Lamp shuts down during warm up cycle!

My belief is that it would be inside the scanner itself. In transparency mode the lamp may require more power and shutting off is a safety device if something is failing. Sadly, repairing a scanner costs almost as much as buying a new one.

I have an Epson V500 scanner. Whenever I plug it in / turn it on it cycles through it's warm up and then shuts itself off. I can pull the power plug out and then reinsert it to turn it back on. Bu

sounds like an internal part is heating up and shorting out- I know this will sound crazy, but put scanner in fridge or outside if you have cold nights, and see if it stays running longer before quitting.

My hp scanjet 7800 does not turn on, the adapter has the green led light showing that it is getting power

First get a multimeter and check if the power is going through the adapter to the end of the cord. The AC/DC transformer should output 32V DC at the end going into the scanner. If it has power, then the scanner power switch or the unit itself has failed. If there is no power passing through the cord, then try a new adapter. (You can find some by Googling - I saw some from various vendors.) If it is the scanner itself that has failed, check if it is under warranty.

If it is under warranty, contact HP for service. They may have the power cords as well but I didn't check that far. Otherwise decide if it is worth the service charges.

I hope this helps.

(at least I do not think this scanner has a hard power switch on the side of the unit.)

Try using other application aside from the canoscan. Try to use Paint, you just click on File then from scanner. If it doesn't work, check the scanner itself, try to plug it in on another power outlet, if you are using a power surge try to unplug it and directly plug it in to the wall. You should notice the light on the scanner. If it is not litting up, you need to have the scanner serviced due to defective bulb

LED never gets to on solid. Always flashes slowly as if in operation.

Thanks, but the problem fixed itself. After leaving the scanner on for a very long time, the LED finally started to glow steadily. Now after power cycle it only takes a few seconds to become ready.

Scanner turning itself on and off??

I do not think u should try to fix it as it would void the warranty since your scanner is only 8 months old. Get it fixed by returning it to the vendor.

CanoScan 8400F

Try this:

Open the CanoScan Toolbox.
Click the Save option.
Put a check in the box that states "Display the Scanner Driver".
Click Scan.
Click the Advanced Mode tab.
Make sure Select Source is set to "Platen".
Click the Preview button at the top left.
If the error still occurs, then most likely it will be a service issue.

One thing to check...see if the inside lamp illuminates when you turn the scanner on using the power button at the back left side of the scanner.

Unplug the power supply from the power port on the scanner then plug it back in after a few seconds and power-up if it isn't already on. This happens to me a lot and this works every time. Frustrating though.

I had the same problem and I figured out how to fix it. First I unplugged the scanner. Then I bit the cables in half. Next I hit the scanner as hard as possible with a hammer. Then I put it on the floor and jumped on it a few times. After that I covered it with gas and set it on fire. Finally I peed on it as it burned. Then I got a new scanner- an HP.
