HP recently replaced my 7310 under warranty with a 7680. It had the additional tray which they didn't want. If you know of anyone that can use one in good condition they can have it for the cost of shipping and handling, along with 3 unused black printer cartridges.
If you don't have anyone interested at present, keep the info for about 30 days. After that I'll pitch the tray and give the cartridges to Office depot and get $3 each for them.

What you need is the 500-SHEET Laser jet Tray CE530A, It automatically print on two different types of paper such as plain paper and glossy brochure paper without manually loading paper trays for each print job. And Save time and improve the performance of individuals and work teams with the increased paper capacity of this 500-sheet paper tray from HP. With more sheets of available paper, users spend less time refilling paper trays. I hope to hear from you soon.
In addition to the pickup roller, the separation pad in the tray should also be replaced. This pad keeps more than one sheet from feeding at a time. When we do maintenance on a printer we always replace both to stop this from happening. The part number you want is RM1-1298-000. It is used in quite a few different HP printers.
You can download the drivers and utility software for the Officejet 7310 from HP's site here or you can run a cleaning cycle from the front panel - select setup and cycle through the choices.
It sounds like you have a defective cartridge, most common with remanufactured cartridges. If it is an HP original you can check the two year warranty as shown here. If the HP oriinal cartrdige is defective and still in its warranty period you can return it to your dealer or contact HP for a replacement. If the cartrdige is a store brand or some other remanufactured cartridge contact your delaer for a replacement.
Every printer uses specific cartridges, that are designed to fit exactly and be controlled properly by the printer. You may be able to get the printer replaced if it is still under warranty, and you can convince HP that this is an issue caused by a manufacturer's problem. Otherwise, see the page below regarding the individual printer.
You may conduct an online chat for support, through which repair/replacement could be initiated by using the Customer Care link on that page. If you need additional assistance, please post back; otherwise thanks for rating FixYa!
