Question about Maytag PYE2300AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My Matag dryer wll not start, it had a timer problem were it would not shut off for a couple of days, now it will not run at alll. It is possible that it ran all night at the hands of one of the teenagers. Is there a "home owner" fix for this problem. I am pretty handy, have hand tools, and a multi meter. I have most of the covers off looking around for a blown fuse or the like right now.

yes, it was heating, no breakers are tripped. Is there internal fuse/reset or the like. I have the top cover, as well as the housing around the timer open, nothing is smoked or discolored. If yur best guess is the timer, I may just may swap it our and see if that will do the trick. Are there some points that I can check with a meter, to tell me if the timer has an open or short circut?

When it ran all night was it heating then? Are any of the breakers tripped? Are the connections secure in the back? But I believe if the heat was working when it was running, the timer may be the problem and they are simple to replace and not that expensive. If this unit is older than 15 years, then it may be time for a new one. The parts and time wasted may be better spent on a new one.

Yes, my best guess is the timer. Since you have the top off, look for the a thermal fuse. It may be shaped like 8-10 stacked nickels. Bypass the fuse and connect the two wires to see if it will run. If it does, then replace it and your back running again. If not, it is most probably the timer.

My maytag dependable care plus electric dryer doesn't shut off

Does the timer move when it's almost ready to shut off if not most likely need a timer. Can you turn it by hand to finish the cycle and shut it off. If not must be timer.

My PYE3200AYW runs but will not heat. Changing

Check for a blown thermal fuse or a faulty heating element. Both components should be located inside the rear of the dryer2.gif. The thermal fuse is about an inch long and is usually attached to or near the exhaust duct. Both components can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity will indicate a faulty component. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

The Dryer stopped and will not start again

Just had a similar problem with our Maytag Electric Dryer. The dryer shut off mid-cycle and wouldn't start again, but the timer kept running. We purchased a "Thermal fuse replacement kit" at a local appliance parts store for $38 and replaced the fuse ourselves. The dryer is running great! Here's a couple of website links that were helpful in figuring out out how to replace the fuse:

Hope this helps!

Timer runs continuously - Does not stop at all

There should be a timer motor on the timer. That is most likely burnt out and will cause the timer to not shut down. Just replace the timer and that will solve the problem

Maytag dryer starts to heat then it stops #pye3200ayw

There are a couple of things that could be causing this problem for you. First off check and make sure that you have good air flow coming from the vent outside the house. If it feels weak then that is probably your problem. If there isn't enough air getting out the thermostat will shut off the heating element for safety reasons. If the air flow feels good then the problem is probably with your thermal fuse. That is a nice cheap part running around 15 dollars at your local appliance repair shop. The thermal fuse is located on the heating element housing and has two small wires coming off of it. Make sure you unplug the dryer before working on it though. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this was helpful for you. Good luck and I am glad I could help.
