Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

Dark screen, no blinking cursor

My TI-83 Plus turns on to a darkened screen but there is no blinking cursor. None of the keys work. I can only turn it on and off. I have just replaced all four AAA batteries. Do I also need to replace the back-up battery?

I have also already tried the Clear button while replacing one battery.

I have the same problem.  I can adjust the screen contrast and turn the calculator on/off, and that's it.  Tried new batteries, but haven't replaced the backup.  What should I do?

If you cannot see anything on the screen, you may need to adjust the graphing TI 84 calculator contrast :

1.To darken the screen, press and release 2nd key, and then press and hold up-arrow key until the display is sufficiently dark.

2. To lighten the screen, press and release 2nd key, and then press and hold down-arrow key until the display is sufficiently light.

My TI-83 plus cannot turn on even i change a new set of battery ?

The screen may be too dim to read. Try pressing 2ND->Up arrow key repeatedly while the calculator is turned on and the screen should start to darken so that you can read it.

My son's TI-83 calculator screen is very dark. The calculator appears to be working but I can barely read the screen. Any suggestions?

Try adjusting the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the down-arrow key to darken the text. If you go too far, use the 2ND and up-arrow keys to lighten the text.

My ti - 83 hasn't been used in a while, placed new batteries in it and all i get is dark screen.....it won't even turn off......there is just a dark screen......any ideas what causing this and how to fix...

The most probable cause (at least I hope so) is that the screen got too dark after you changed the batteries. It is a common occurrence: Screen becomes too dark or too light.
To adjust the screen contrast:
  1. Press ^2nd key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the DownArrow key until screen lightens to your taste.

When I turn my TI-83 on I see a black screen....What can I do

Hi,
The screen contrast of the TI83Plus/TI84Plus/TI84PLUS SE can be adjusted to suit the user. Sometimes after the batterie have been replaced the screen contrast is reset to the factory defaults.
To adjust it to your liking.
  1. Press the [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and hold the Down Arrow key to lighten the screen or the UP arrow to darken it.
In your case, the screen is too dark, so in step 2 above you press and hold the Down arrow until the screen lightens enough.
Hope it helps.

I have a blank screen. The unit lights up but i can't input data.

Hello,
It is possible that the screen is too light to see anything. If that is the case you can try to darken the screen a bit to verify if it works.
To do so:
Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press and hold the UP arrow to darken the screen. Keep pressing until it is dark enough.

If that does not work, you may have to follow the link to the TI FAQ and Knowledge Base to an article that addesses the question of a graphing calculator not turning on.

Hope it helps.

My TI-83 Plus turns on but yields a dark screen with no blinking cursor thing. All I can do is turn it on and off. I have just put in new AAA batteries.

Try turning the contrast down. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Down-arrow key for a few seconds until the screen lightens.

I don't have the book and I don't know how to shut it off...TI-83

Sorry, but you cannot. That is the cursor, and it is equivalent to the cursor you see on your computer when typing text. You can change the resolution of the screen by pressing 2ND then the up and down keys, but this will change the resolution of EVERYTHING that is on the screen, not just the cursor.
