Question about ASUS P5VD2-MX SE Motherboard

ASUS P5VD2-MX Temperature label on speedfan

A few days ago i DL speedfan to monitor temp setting of my new bought VideoCard Fan and speedfan came up with 3 temp settings, of which should be 1:CPU, 2:case fan temp, and the 3rd something somewhere else to be connected to my MB but i cant figure it out, nothing like fans are attached to my MB and the temperature varies from 6 celcius to about 35 celcius, now speedfan also shows a Fan3 with a std. 0 RPM, but I'm sure all the fans in my sys are rotating.

here some additional information about the temp place of where speedfan gets the information:
LABEL---CHIP---SENSOR---SAMPLE---BUS---ADDRESS
Temp1---IT8712F---temp1---44C---ISA---$290
Temp2---IT8712F---temp2---24C---ISA---$290
Temp3---IT8712F---temp3---41C---ISA---$290

now my question: does my MB have an additional spot to connect a fan?? I cant find it and nothing is told about it in the manual.

Greetings Wiard

Hi dutchdj, speed fan software is not perfect. If you look on the motherboard, use your manual & go to page 1-6. You'll see there is a power connector in-between the memory & the main MB power connector. The 3-pin connector closest to the upper right hand of the board is for the CPU fan. The 3-pin power connector under the CPU fan connector is for the MB fan. You seem to have this covered. You are correct. There is no other 3-pin connectors for additional fans. (I went over your manual), your good!
It is possible that your software is trying to monitor the graphics card fan. I wouldn't worry about it. The temp 41c-44c is still within normal temp. If you want to help lower the over all temp, suggest you add 1 or 2 side case fans. These will bring in fresh air onto the MB & help cool CPU, MB, video & hdd's. I did this for my Asus & it has helped allot.
Check out this site if you want to add more case fans;

Your fine dutchdj!
Good eye.

Hi.

Even if a defective CPU may decide to overheat by itself the case would be quite unusual. The problem is usually caused by a defective fan or by a fan incorrectly installed. Be sure that the fan is starting and replace the fan.

As a first step try once again reinstalling the fan. This time measure the temperature using a software like SpeedFan.
If there is no change in temperature reading, try replacing the fan. A fan with damaged bearing may provide insufficient cooling resulting in overheating.

PS: be sure that problem is temperature and not system crashing. The temperature monitoring software will tell you.

Regards.

Freezes after running for a few days

Your CPU and/or MB may be overheating.
Google: "Speedfan" for a free fan and temperature monitoring program.
Open your computer case and blast out the dust with compressed air.
Plug your computer into a backup battery (aka UPS) if you can.
At a minimum, plug the computer into a surge protected outlet.
I hope this helps.

EVGA 8800GTS g92 with ASUS P5VD2-MX SE

Suggestion 1: Try switching your Monitor's plug from one DVI to the other. This shouldn't do anything, because your graphic card should display the booting sequence on all connected monitors... however, doesn't hurt to try.

Suggestion 2: New graphic cards are quite a power-hungry monsters... are you sure your power supply is up to the task?
Your current configuration could help in this regard + the make, model and rated Wattage of your PSU.

Where do wires go?

there is a pin-out for the front panel interface in the user manual, There are pins for Power button, reset, HDD activity, and for a few other functions THIS IS NOT WHERE THE FANS PLUG IN. The fans connect to the Fan connectors, there are usually 2/3 on the board, 1 near the CPU, 1 near the memory and 1 usually close to the IDE/ SATA connectors
