I think you have to set the ide hd primary to disabled then reboot and reenter the bios. refer to this link. the bios settings may be a little different as it is a diff mobo. http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/pc_sata_second_boot.shtml
good luck

try this as well from msi site:

Installing Windows 200/XP on a single S-ATA Hard Drive

Right after booting off of the Windows cd, you need to push the F6 key when prompted (Fig-a)

Next when prompted (Fig-b) install the correct driver from the floppy disk provided with the motherboard, press the S key to specify the driver, and select the correct driver depending on which controller you are using, then press enter key to continue.

After this Windows 2000/XP will continue the installation, and will detect the S-ATA hard drive to be installed onto.

Sir, i have an msi n1996 (vt8237r & km400 8237) mother board. My sata 160 gb hdd is not getting recognized in bios. Pl. help. (it is reported somewhare on the net that i have to enter into the...

I enabled SATA support on my BioStar M7VIZ-SATA MOBO (it is km400 and 8237r, like yours) by first installing the VIA SATA RAID drivers. At this point, Windows recognized the device controller but not the 120GB drive. The problem was that the system doesn't support "newer" SATA drives, so I installed a jumper on the disk drive to set it to "150" mode... SATA version 1 compatibility. After that, Windows immediately recognized the drive and mounted the filesystem.

I think it was a Western Digital drive. Other manufacturers have a different name for the same jumper. Also, I read that one type (Samsung?) can only be set to the old SATA standard by getting the drive running in a SATA 2 environment, then using a utility program to adjust the drive's microcode setting.

Good Luck to you.

Controller MSI K8N Neo4 does not work

SHUT DOWN COMPUTER AND CLEAR CMOS BY RESETTING JUMPER ON MOTHERBOARD AND THEN RETURN JUMPER TO NORMAL POSITION OR USE RESET BUTTON. UNPLUG ALL HDD SATA CONNECTORS FROM HDD. BOOT COMPUTER TO BIOS. MAKE SURE ENABLE ALL SATA IS ENABLED, PRESS F10 AND EXIT.YOU WANT TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN. NOW REATTACH SATA HDD AND CONNECTORS AND BOOT TO BIOS AGAIN. NOW HIT F10 AND LET COMPUTER RESTART AND LOAD INTO THE OS. LOGON AND CHECK DEVICE MANAGER..SHOULD BE THERE. IF NOT CHECK MOTHER BOARD WEB SITE FOR BIOS UPDATE. IF BIOS UPDATE DOESN'T DO THE TRICK, SHUT DOWN AND DISCONNECT THE IDE DRIVE, UNLESS IT CONTAINS YOUR OS. TRY BOOTING TO BIOS AND CHANGE ORDER OF 1ST BOOT OPTIONS, HIT F10 AND EXIT AND ALLOW COMPUTER TO BOOT TO OS, THEN LOGON, GO TO DEVICE MANAGER AND REMOVE IDE AND RESTART, ONLY IF THIS HDD DOES NOT CONTAIN OS. YOU SHOULD BE FINE AFTER THIS, OR INSTALL YOUR OS ON THE SATA HDD.

Bios not detecting 320gb sata drive

Double check the jumper configuration, You might also want to check the cables and ports incase that's the problem because a properly jumpered SATA drive shouldn't have any compatibility issues. Also check if *********** board supports the SATA ? Let me know if this works..thanks. Mike

Hdd

your board may support sata however it may support sata 1 not 2 and your hdd may be a sata 2 one..so all you have to do is to check the hdd jumper and set it on sata 1 and also check the bios for the right settings to be made...
good luck
