This is either a sign that your tape drive is bad or it is time to get a new cleaning tape. Find out if it is covered under warrenty first i have had problems with tape drives on the model in the past.

How to Clean a Travan 40

Travan 40 tape drive, manufactured by the leading data storage and backup device manufacturer Quantum, uses the tape storage business to 40 gigabytes of data. It can be installed on any Windows computer, and works as an additional unit similar to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Like a tape of age, Travan 40 used with the recording heads for data storage on tape. These heads have to be cleaned, and Quantum recommends using a cleaning tape.

1. Turn on the computer. Remove the cleaning cartridge of your case.

2. Insert the cleaning cartridge into the Travan 40 drive, with the metal plate down. Gently push the drive mechanism that pulls and keeps everything in the device.

3. Look at the LED on the drive Travan, should stop blinking and turns off in about 8 seconds. Note that the LED will remain on the cartridge is used more often than not meant to be used and, if so, remove it and put a new cleaning cartridge.

4. Slide the unit Eject button and hold and pull the exposed sides of the car once the disc is ejected.

5. Record the date on the label of the cleaning cartridge with a marker pen so you can track when your Travan 40 drive yet again and how often you use the cartridge.

6. The return of the cartridge cleaning your plastic box.

7. Repeat the process of cleaning every week if your drive Travan more than 3 hours per day, or every month if you use it with less than 3 hours per day. Clean it twice if you have your computer in an area with a large amount of dust, like a room without air conditioning or a warehouse.
We put a new tape into the cam corder and the screen has turned blue. What can we do?

Hi, first check with old tape that the tape is getting played or not. If its working fine there may be two problems with the new tape:
1. Either the tape not inserted properly.
2. Or the tape is defective.

Also, try to clean the head of the camcorder with cotton bud before inserting the tape. If nothing works from the begining. The head of the camcorder is to be shown to the service centre for checking the correct operation.

Hope ur problem gets solved in the very beginning.

I was trying to backup my server while exchanging DLT tapes, the tape in use light stayed on and the serve would then alternate to four flashing lights and then back to flashing "Tape In Use...

Hello,

Try the following action to resovle your issue:

1. Run the Drive Assessment Test in HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools.

CAUTION: Running the Drive Assessment Test overwrites the tape. If it is not possible to

overwrite the tape, run the logs-based Device Analysis Test instead.
2. Check the backup logs.

3. Verify that a supported configuration is being used.

4. Check for media damage:

o Incorrect label placement

o Broken, missing, or loose leader pin

o Damaged cartridge seam

o Usage in incorrect environment

5. Check for software issues:

a. Check the backup software.

b. Check that virus scanning software is not scheduled to run at the same time as the back-up.

6. Verify that a tape can be formatted.

Tape Error LED is flashing:

1. Reload the suspect tape. If the Tape Error LED stops flashing, the problem has cleared.

2. Load a new or known good tape. If the Tape Error LED stops flashing, the problem has cleared.

3. Reload the suspect tape. If the Tape Error LED flashes, discard the suspect media as faulty.

From my experience, most of the time it is a bad tape, using a new tape usually solves the problem. If after inserting a new tape and the problem exist, you may need to update your firmware/backup software.

Good Luck

Canon XL1. Unable to playback tape in camcorder

I have the solution that the canon expert forgot to mention. And this solved my exact problem too. I put in the tape and then shut the white door over top. This doesn't engage the tape. Problem solved. Human error, The fix cost nothing.

Sony handy cam

If your Sony tells you it is recording yet on playback there is nothing there other than a blank screen, I had this problem and this is how I solved it.
1. Clean the heads two or three times with head cleaning kit
2. Leave the tape door open, with tape out or in, and warm the camera up for about 2 hours minimum.
3. Put in a previously recorded tape and see if it will display that film. If not, repeat 1 and 2. Persevere.
4. Once Stage 3 works (you might have a few "dirty" lines on it for a few seconds, and it is playing normally, try recording.
This worked for me. The heads were dirty and the camera cold but I persevered and thankfully it is OK (but for how long?)
Hope this helps. It seems to be rooted around dirty heads and coldness.

Vcr is eating tapes

hi Hope you had good new year.
The problem is going to be with the head getting sticky and then the tapes get stuck to it instead of sliding smoothly over it.
Their two ways of solving this the one is buy a good head cleaner it comes in the form of a tape and you will get some cleaning sollution to put on the tape, however this option dont always work.
The way i have always done it is remove the case carefully not damaging anything make sure all screws are removed their might be even some hidden under the rubber bungs or even under stickers.
Once the case is removed place the video on flat ground the right way up and then look towards the back and you will either have 1 or two silver wheels this is where the video gets the picture from the tape.
These should be perfectly smoothe and shiny with not a mark on them as this will affect pictur quality.
What happens is you might have put a tape in that had a bit of grease or something sticky on it and this has becomes transfered onto the tape head.
Dont touch the sides but try tuenunig it by touching the top edge this should be free to the touch.
Also whilst spinning check under good light for any marks or grease.
You will need to get some cleaning alcahol and a dust free cloch you can use any cleaning fluid that isnt greasy like white spirits.
dab a bit on the cloth and then gently hold the cloth on the head whilst turning it with other hand do this several times then allow to dry thouroly leave it for about 15 min to evaporate then recheck.
It should be smooth with no scratche and no marks whatsoever.
then switch on without case on so you can look at whats happening make sure you touch nothing whilst doing this put tape in and try it if the problem is solved then put back together.
If not then its going to need a drive betl replacing but well worry about that later let me know ok should have solved your problem

Please help...Blue Screen of Death?

try a head cleaning tape. the blue screen is what is displayed when the heads are too dirty to read the information on the tape. if the head cleaning tape doesn't solve it, a hand cleaning should do the job.
