GO DVD Recorder+VCR will not Initialize Disc

I bought this GO unit from UBID 11/19/05 and when I did discs it never prompted me to Initialize. The copies I made in the past will not work in any machine but mine (I just found out). How do I get this Initialize to happen. I found it as a option in the menu but it is in lite text and does nothing when I click it.

The dvd wont initialize blanc discs so that i can record with it.i have used different disc as well

Do you mean it won't format/initialize the disc? Alternative possible problem, when you put in a disc, does it not recognize that a blank disc is in the unit? Only DVD-RAM discs need formatting. DVD-RW discs need to be initialized. DVD-R disc do not need either formatting or initializing. (This unit does not write to DVD+R or DVD+RW discs.)

In the case of DVD-RW discs that can't be initialized. Check if this has already been done (or if you need to unfinalize the disc).

If the new disc is not being recognized as a blank disc, the recorder may not be recognizing the disc (dirt, scratches or manufacturing issue) or the recorder is not focusing on the disc properly. In the first case, clean the disc or try a different type of disc (Samsung claims that their discs will be most compatible). In the second case, the unit may need service.

I hope this helps.

Magnavox DVD recorder...finalizing problem

The manual isn't too helpful either - "Recording error other than below," it says. There are a couple of possibilities. The Philips/Magnavox/Funai recorders automatically record in VR mode when you use +R discs (there are two possible recording modes - V Mode and VR Mode). Is it possible that you have switched disc types lately? If you are currently using -R discs, switch to +R and vice versa. The manual states that +/-RW discs take a while to initialize.

I couldn't find a full factory reset on that one, so you may have to unplug the unit for about 20 minutes to restore all the defaults.

Another possibility: Finalization requires some extra space on the disc. If you accidentally pressed the button that changes the recording format between SP, EP, LP, etc., you may not be able to fit the same amount of video on the disc that you were able to fit before. You can change the format by pressing the Disc Mode button on the remote - LP Mode will fit 3 hours worth of recordings onto a 2-hr disc and is considered a "medium quality" recording. Try changing the Disc Mode to LP and see if it will finalize the next disc that you record. The downside of this possibility is that the discs that you have already made that are giving you errors are not "fixable" - you will will have to re-record the shows to a new disc in LP mode.

Good luck!

1st, does it come with a driver...if it doesn't, just make sure it is installed properly in your PC, then you just need to install a dvd writing software in your PC e.g. NERO Pro (v7 or later)...then, all will fit in...
