Question about Projection Televisions

Rca r52wh74 - no auto convergance

While watching tv - the colors went out of alignment with each other. What could be the issue? We have turned off and turned back on after 5 min

my rca 52 in has the same problem. but seems to not auto converge . and even when i manuel converge the screen is still looks like a 3 d movie.
i have tried every thing.. and its only a year old..
I have the exact same problem. Its showing 3 different color lines. Mine is only 2 years old. I bought it for $900 at Walmart but I kept my receipt. I called so that they could fix it but they said they dont make that model or the pieces for it I guess so Walmart issued me a check for a full refund 2 years later. On top of that, they said i could keep the 52" so now im trying to get it fixed somewhere else & get another tv. But if i get it fixed will i have the same problem again or another soon on these particular model tvs? Im trying to figure out would it be best for me to get it fixed or just spend the money on another tv?

Ha, thanks for the tip but I dont even feel comfortable pumping gas in my car. If i were to get it fixed, can you give me an estimate as to how much I should expect to pay for this type of problem? And also do you think it would be better to get this fixed or get another brand tv? I just dont wanna have to go through this or another problem anytime soon. Thanks

Im in San Diego & I've already $250-$350 estimate from one place. When I told him the problem & gave him the model number he researched it & told me i have a bad conversion board over the phone. That made me research it on my own & see if I could order the parts on my own & maybe just pay someone for the labor.

The convergence circuit is the problem. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself. First locate the convergence ICs which are large black ICs attached to a heatsink that will be marked STKxxx. Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Please note that there could be additional small parts that require replacement as well. Start with the ICs and let me know the results.

While this is a bit unusual for a set only a year old, it is poossible. I would think that the connections are bad rather than the part being defective. The convergence ICs run around $20 or so each (there are 2). The problem is that the labor charge for a set this size will probably be over $200. Be careful that the service shop doesn't state up front that the convergence board is bad. If so, the parts cost will exceed $150. The board can be repaired at less cost than replacement. If the board is replaced a complete convergence procedure will be required which will add to the labor cost.

Where are you located? Perhaps I can recommend a shop.

The model number of your TV probably falls under the ITC-222 chassis design. Do a search based on that criteria and it should point you in the right direction. If I remember right, you need to replace FL231 on the deflector board though. Good luck
Dave.

you have lost convergence. First thing to check is to see if you are missing the convergence option in the customer setup menu. if you do not have this option then i suggest reading the article in the tips and tricks section entiltled "the fl231 fuse problem" this is a common and sometime easy repair if you do have it then you might need a convergence power board

R52WH74 WONT CONVERGE

first question is the picture also bowed in on top and bottom. if so you may have the common fl231 fuse problem if you do consult the fl231 problem under the tips and tricks section. if you dont then you defently hav a convergence issue. the thing to look for is under setup do you have the autoconvegence option if you dont then you have that problem.

On this particular model when your convergence is out of alignment, and the auto convergence is suddenly missing from the TV's menu all together, there is a easy fix.

Diode on Main Power supply, Location dl321 and fuse at Location fl231.

This problem has a high failure rate.

you need to replace chemical type fuse marked FL231 part number 259213, it`s located next to the flyback transformer, theres 3 of them there but 231 is the only one I`ve seen cause your problem, replace it and you`ll be all set.Happy Holidays !
