Question about HP Pavilion Dv8380us Notebook
Hp dv8380us with intel, xp media, 2g ram, nvidia graphics. if i uninstall the graphics card the computer will boot and work find just in low resolution. when i reinstall the vga driver the symptoms return. during boot (without the driver installed) i get a screen with lines and then a screen with dollar signs just before the windows splash screen.
The hp dv8380us has an issue with the nvidia 7600 go graphics chip when the manufactured this laptop they didn't use the proper heat sink and heat sink compound so it causes the graphics chip to over heat. and when it over heats it causes errors as you explained. i also have a hp dv8380us and have the same issues and haven't found a fix. mine also shows the picture 4 times as big as the lcd so i can only see 1 fourth of the picture i can see it fine if i hook it up through the vga port though. hope this explains your problem.
