Question about HP NX9010 Notebook

1 Answer

NX9010 will not power up

PC was running normal on ac power and I assume went into hibernate mode. When I came back to it and tried to power it up, all I got was the caps, num, keypad lock, power and wireless lights to flash on then off. Now it's locked until I press the reset on the bottom, then the same lights. It charges fine and the battery is fine. I reset the ram, battery and hard drive and the same problem. Because I never get a post or the fans to come on I am suspecting the motherboard. Do you agree?

Thanks for the reply. An HP post suggested your very idea which I tried. When the battery is out and I power it up I get the flashing battery light which is normal (no battery). As soon as I press the power button the battery light goes out and after 30 secs I tried putting back the battery and power cable, but now I'm dead until I press the reset switch on the bottom. I'm thinking, maybe I have a constant short which is causing the lights to start then go right out. I did try leaving the rem out and booting up. The light do the same deal. I think I'll start removing covers and cards to see if anything changes.

I would try taking out the battery and make sure the AC adapter is unplugged, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then plug in the AC adapter and try to power it on. Otherwise, since you are not getting a POST, the common issue would be a motherboard problem. Not a absolute. Sometimes removing the ram then trying to power on may cause it to POST. It won't make it past that of course, but it is also is a good test. Hope this helps.

Hi Jessica,

Hibernation mode usually turns the computer off but saves any work. Then you would start it back up by hitting the power button, it will boot up and you log in like normal and the computer should be as it was before it went into hibernation.

If you can't get it out of hibernation by pressing the power button, try holding the power button for 5-10 seconds. The laptop may actually still be on, and holding the power button will cut if off. Once the computer is back on you can change the battery options(hibernation/turn off settings) in Windows by going to the bottom right task bar and right clicking on the battery icon. Normally you will have an option like "power saving settings", "battery settings". In this setting window you can turn off hibernation due to inactivity.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,

Hibernation mode

First thing to try is to remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter. Press the power button for a full 10 seconds to drain residual power from the capacitors on the board. Give it 5 mins then put the AC adapter and battery back in and give it a try. You might also refine your hibernation settings - I had a 5000 which is similar and finally turned hibernation off. Also check for a pin switch that the lid pushes down when it closes to see if something is holding the switch down when the lid is raised. I dont remember if that model has a mechanical push switch or a magnetic. Magnetic shouldnt do it but mechanicals are very prone to getting stuck.

Can't get my laptop out of hibernate/standby mode. Need help

Try removing the battery and all pwer from the computer.  This will kill the hibernation process.  Put the battery back in, with outlet power if you desire.  Then try to start the laptop in safe mode.  (Everything will be very big)  Go to the start menu, accessories, system tools, and stystem restore.  Go through the process of restoring the computer any time before you tried installing the update! Then it will automatically restart in normal mode and you should have your old internet explorer back and it SHOULD start up normally!  Hope this helps! :)

Will not power up, no fans, post code or display

when you say you press the reset button you mean the power button right?
I assume you just press it and pc restarts...
instead bootup to as far as you can get then press and hold power button until pc turns off then reboot ..you should now be able to access the point where it says windows was shutdown incorrectly or interrupted options to restart normal or last good config etc..
if it doesnt you may need to reinstall windows

I have never found hibernation to work successfully.
Disable hibernation if you ever get it started.
Try reading the manual on how to restart for hibernation, press "spacebar", "enter" or something.

Broken hp...

Unplug the power and remove the battery at the same time. Put the battery back in and plug it back in to power. It should come back up and maybe give you a message about "windows was not shut down properly" select "start normally" and it should be fine. From there, you will soon need to get it to a technician to check the logs to see what happened if anything other then a typical windows burp, it does happen. Good Luck.

V5000 won't turn on now from hibernation mode

you might need to check your ac adapter and power outlet first before blaming your motherboard.
you go to hibernate mode because the battery is low. the battery is low because you ac adapter isnot supplying power to battery.

Compaq Business Notebook NX9010 runs on battery only???

If it charges the battery but won't run on AC (without a battery) then something on the motherboard is probably faulty.

Desk top won't display-hibernation mode

Hi,

Based on your post of failure to boot due to hibernation, you can try removing the battery and AC adapter connection for an hour or so. Thereafter, insert battery back and charge but don't power up. Allow the laptop to charge for a couple of hours. Try powering up/booting. Press F8 to start in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode disable Hibernation.

If the laptop still fails to power up, then it may be entirely another problem.

Post back results. Good luck and kind regards.
