I cannot get power display at all, even after over night charge. I use the same USB port that I use with other products, so it is not the port. Reset switch? ?/

Vista won't recognize mine either. Same exact problem. Initializing screen then nothing. Nada. Tried to reset - nope. DLed the firmware but can't get the cpu to recognize the mp3 is plugged in so I can't install. Very frustrated. Might throw this soon...

By holding down the power button for 15 seconds acts like the reset switch.

Usually if will not start the firmware is bad.
You need to go to the RCA website and download the new firmware.
    After downloading it Install it.

If it's anything like the opal M4002 then on the back of the player there will be a small hole into which you can insert a small implement (like a toothpick) and press the reset button.

Firmware for my rca opal m4208rd

This is a very common problem with the RCA Opal.
You need to goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware.
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=408
Download the firmware from there. Plug in your mp3 player. (don't worry if it cant be found bye the PC it will when the firmware installs)
After the mp3 player is plugged into the usb device of your pc install the newly downloaded firmware. And it should work fine.

I can`t find the reset button on my rca opal m4001 mp3 player

Some models have reset switches some do not.
Look on the back of your mp3 there should be a tiny hole there.
That is the reset switch for most opal. Other way to reset is hold power button down for 15 seconds.

If you cant find it you will have to go to the RCA website and download the latest firmware.

After a firmware update my RCA M4208RD-B won't work.

Download the firmware again.
after its download get the firmware you just download and install that one. Make sure mp3 player is hooked to your pc.
Go to add hardware.
Have windows look for MTP device. while the firmware is installing.
after its installed leave it hooked to pc for about 1 hour to give it a little charge. You should see a new folder Opal.
Let me know if that helped

Make sure hold/lock is not engaged

Restart

Get the firmware upgrade from RCA website

If it is less than a year old, call RCA if these methods fail and get a replacement - hope you still have your receipt.
