Question about Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook

Key strokes slow response

When I type a word, there is a slight delay before it shows up on the monitor. Dell can't figure it out. This slows the typing speed considerably.

A second problem is that once in a while, I try to turn off my laptop but it won't shut down. I have to disconnest the battery for a few seconds. Dell can't come up with an answer.

  • bgat2206home Jan 19, 2009

I still can not get the words on the monitor to keep up with the key strokes. There is a delay which causes a slow down in the typing process.
What ever I type on my Dell Vostro 1500 keyboard, it shows up moments later on the screen. I had the laptop reformatted but still no change.

  • bgat2206home Jan 19, 2009

No matter where I type, either on a web site or word processor, the problem still exists. I had a computer tech turn off all unnecessary programs but there was no change to the original posted problem.

  • bgat2206home Jan 19, 2009

I have 2 Gig of memory installed. That should be sufficient.

  • bgat2206home Jan 19, 2009

I've done all the maintenance such as deleting Temp files and defraging. That is done weekly by Live One Care.

  • bgat2206home Jan 21, 2009

I've tried all your suggestions and even discussed it with a computer repair service. The problem still exists no matter where I type. That includes internet, e-mail, word processor. This is quite frustrating.

  • bgat2206home Jan 31, 2009

I reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled Windows XP and all is well.

    Thanks

Slow response is a defective keyboard ribbon cable, or a defective keyboard, the part must be replaced.

1. Most probably it is a virus. Chek it for viruses firs. If you have McAfree it can slow down the PC when ther is a virus. If cleaning failed you need to reinstall softwear.
2. physical memory is low
3. Also check the virtual memory: control panel - system - settings -performance - virtual memory. Try to increase it
Good Luck

Are u running allot of background programs? if so type in MSCONFIG in the run menu and follow instructions, and shut off all the programs that u can. these programs will still be available but will only start running when u request that program, this should speed the system up.

Hi there
May i ask if this only happens on-line or if it happens across the board?
If its only happening on-line, the reason is your java script needs updating and this should resolve the problem (sometimes with the machine itself) a flash update may also be required.
If its happening across the board ( the whole PC ) its one of 2 things.
1. there is a fault with the keyboard, degraded wire for example. try another keyboard
2. A slight fault with system memory due to build up of dust, Take out the memory and clean the dust away from the contacts and the slots and re-seat.

Good luck

I went thru this same issue with another asker for two days ... you need to increase the amount of memory your computer has.

you may also wish to try... start menu... control panel... keyboard... you can control the repeat rate in there... tho i suspect in the long run you will indeed find it a memory issue

I would suggest you reload the windows into the laptop from the recovery cd or from the original windows installation cd.

If you have a slow writing speed on the internet browser another browser might solve the problem.

it may be caused by too many programs runing on the background or a hardware fault generating interupt requets etc. I would need to have a closer look at the laptop to know more.

Slow Computer

Could be lots of reasons. First thing you're gonna want to do is backup your important files.

I'd say it's time for a format / re-install.

You could try figuring out the exact problem(s) but it's much smarter to do what I suggested.

Trust me.

Clean your keyboard, try to blow it out with compressed air, and also take a barely wet rag or Q-tip and clean out the gunk. You might be able to pop the keys off and clean in there, make sure the power is off or even unplug it. Even try to unplug the keypad and plug it in, and/or reboot the device.

Go into the Keyboard Properties and check the repeat delay. It may be set to long change it to to short and see if that helps.

There is a delay when pressing the keys on my thinkpad T42

you haven't mentioned how other programs behave. i would suggest it is spyware slowing your computer down or one program that is using up to my cpu usage. hitting control-alt-delete will bring up your task manager... at the bottom it shows cpu and memory usage as a percent.... what are the amounts ?

Delayed keyboard response on Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop

Is the mouse response sluggish as well during these times?

In most cases, it means the computer is busy with another process. The keys you press stay in the keyboard buffer until the CPU has time to process them.

Check your CPU busy time when this happens. In Windows XP, press ctl-alt-del to start the task manager, the select the processes tab to see if one process is tying up the system (by % of CPU), or press the performance tab to see CPU usage. If it is pegged at close to 100%, something is tying up the system.
