I would suggest dissabling messenger in windows if thats what you are using or update msn messenger and downloading Windows Live, as it is more capable of using the camera and is more widely used. It's free to download from here

My logitech webcam won't work in msn messenger when i try to make a video says I need to buy or install a webcam? what's the deal? heeeelp

Hi Marilyn,

Have you installed the Logitech Quickcam program? If you did then open the application and select the instant messenger(i.e. MSN, SKype, Yahoo) that you will be using the camera.

If you have note yet installed the Logitech Quickcam application then I suggest you disconnect the webcam and run the software first.

How to use my webcam

assuming that the camera is installed and functional ..( it has the driver to suit it ) ...the main use for a web camera is to make video calls from an instant messaging program like yahoo messenger ..or windows live ( msn ) messenger ...or skype ....
so and sign in into messenger yahoo ...using the installled program into computer and not the chat from the mail page ...
on the conversation window you will have a camera sign ...and pressing it will send a message to the other that you invite him to see your web camera ...
in the same moment a window will open on your screen and you will be able to see yourself...( some confirmations will be asked for )
into msn ..the issue is a little different cause the cameras will start automatically in the moment when you press the video call into the conversation window...infact ..its about the same on all im programs ...
another use for it is to make snap shots photo like using the camera from the my computer ...where it should be present like a drive ...and has a task in the left for to take snap shots
you ca also use it to make captures after you open it from all programs ...AM cap ...or Video cap depends on how is present there ...and also for this feature you will have to go on all buttons from the window that will apear and set the settings director...and file name after saving ...
in short it can be used for many things ..but the main is the video calls that are possible with an instant messaging program ...

Are you using Flash Player on MSN? This sounds like you need to turn on access from the flash player setting menu. This sounds like another issue with the latest update of flash player. Also, you might try 'unchecking' the box for 'use hardware acceleration' in the flash player settings.
