Help it's cold here in Ohio

I have a cozy room heater made in 1991, 60,000 BTU. My problem is that this (pic) wire broke off the valve unit. I am wanting to know if this is fixable with out buying a new valve. The wire hooked to the valve unit is solid but when it broke off I smelled gas so I shut the gas off. Would gas escape from this? Also what is this wire and metal pen looking thing attached at the end, it's purpose? Can I tape over it and try lighting the stove?

Thank you for any help, Debra

This is the pic of the wire and pen and where it broke off, copper looking wire just above the metal pen point.

Hi there,

The item you broke off is the sensing capilary tube-it may be filled with mercury or a substitute material that expands when heated...it is NOT tied to your gas fuel......it's purpose is to sense temperature and signal to the internal thermostat to open or close....it will not operate in this condition.. You need a new gas control valve.

The "wire" you broke is probably the tube for the pilot assembly. It supplies gas to the pilot which in turn fires the burners thru a gas valve. The other option is you broke the thermocouple which causes the gas valve to open (its a safety feature incorporated to keep gas explosions from happening). You will need to replace the broken part before using this unit--period. It is not worth the danger involved trying to bypass these safety measures. BE SAFE!!!

Have a Cozy 35,000 BTUH vented closed front heater with bad gas valve. Need to remove manifold from the valve. Is the valve a right or left hand thread.

on back of unit remove the 2 screws holding down the gas valve, remove wires and pilot tubing from valve, open side access door and you will see a brass nut turn counter clockwise and remove manifold and valve out the back of unit then unscrew the valve from manifold.

I have a cozy gas heater in my converted garage, and it won't stay lit any longer. I light it, but by the next morning the pilot is out and the room is cold. What part would I need to fix it? Thank...

if you can re-light the unit all parts are good,if the vent pipe is ran thru the side wall and up this is the problem the vent temps on these unit are low which can not over come the cold air and can not start a draw ans backs into the unit and puts out the pilot.

My Cozy Heater sized and installed by professional will not heat

I'm assuming your heater is the little Cozy direct vent wall furnace, your room calculations are correct, and at 57 degrees your main burner is constantly on. If so, it sounds as if you have too low a flame which can be caused by a main burner jet with an undersized orifice (like a propane one that got in the wrong assembly line) or obstructed by dirt, inadequate gas pressure, or a main gas valve that is not fully opening.

Open the pilot light inspection door and look at the main burner flame height. If it is less than 2 inches or so, check out the three possibilities above. If the flame is very yellow and wandering around lazily, check the air intake on your vent cap for obstruction.

You might have a slight odor of gas when the burner first ignites. Some gas does escape before it completely ignites. It shouldn't smell after 2 years of use. If you can see the pilot flame burning from the top of the heater, the heater pilot assembly is pushed over too far. The pilot fumes could be escaping in the room and cause a smell.

When unit goes on, there is a slight odor of gas when the valve

Cozy cheapened their heaters awhile back doing away with the air shutter. Without the shutter, a little gas can seep out into the room before it ignites and cause an odor. As for the curing odor, can you see the pilot flame looking down from the top of the heater? The pilot should be well inside the exchanger out of view. If you can see it, fumes from the pilot are getting into the room causing an odor. I had to remove the plate that holds the pilot assembly and drill a new hole shifting the plate over where it belongs. It was poorly assembled at the factory. Hope this helps.

Cozy dual sided wall heater

There isn't much to these things, its either the pilot generator or the gas valve. Or maybe both, try the first, then the second.
