Question about Kenmore 18.3 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator w/Through-the-Door Water Dispenser

1 Answer

Frigidaire FRF170FF Freezer, rear of compressor, ice forming.

Rear compressor outlet pipe to bottle base, ice forming. Could you shed some light on this. This has occured after engineer topped up with gas and the tempreture has droped down to -5. It was originally on-10 where by I originated the service call on. I should of let it stay on -10 without calling out an engineer. I now I wish I din't report this and left it to it's own devices.

Fire that engineer. Topping off a fridge is amatuer at best and criminal at worst. The frost is occurring because it has too much gas in it. Let a little out while it is running and it will cease frosting. Hope this helps!

Daewoo side by side freezer leaking even though water turned off also icing up at bottom of freezer

Probably a blocked drain outlet or pipe. At the bottom rear of the unit, mine had a drain pipe blocked with a plug of mould (5/6 years old machine), apparently quite common. I detached the pipe and cleaned it out and replaced it.
From inside the freezer, I removed the lower back panel and thawed the ice build up on the drainage tray below the defrost heating element, leading to the pipe outside. The puddles of water that was appearing every defrost cycle have now stopped - permanently I hope. Hope this helps you

Sounds like you have several things happening at once. If freezer stops defrosting the freon becomes so cold going back to compressor that the compressor can not pump the Freon. It begins to struggle trying to keep up the temperature setting you asked for but can not transfer the heat out of freezer and fresh food sections because there is a block of ice preventing the flow. You need to unplug and lets defrost manually and give the compressor some much needed rest. Use a hair dryer to remove the Ice. Remove rear panel in rear of freezer to make it easier to get to and see what I am talking about. I will stick with you all the way through the repair if you like. But for now unplug and transfer the food to another standby. I will be here so just let me know when ready. Sea Breeze

Bosch fridge freezer - ice build up and water leak from freezer

Hi,
This is most likely a blocked drain pipe - blocked with ice that is.

Remove all the drawers in the freezer - and stack them up.
With the unit switched off and unplugged, undo the fixings on the rear pannel in the freezer (behind the drawers)
Remove it to see the evaporator coils etc.
At the base there should be a channel - and a hole leading to the drain pipe. This needs unblocking wih a thin flexible cable. -net curtain support wire is ideal, and cheap. or use a short length of insulated cable.
Check it comes out at the rear of the unit onto the evaporator container - situated on top ofthe compressor.
Replace everything and switch on.

Some insect would have gone into the drain pipe and blocked the outlet for the water to flow and it gets collected inside.

First please clean the drain pipe and remove any block.

Defrost your refrigerator at least once in three days.

Excess ice formed in the freezer chamber will result in less cooling and melting of ice and make it run down.

The above remedies should solve your problem

Ice forming and freezing in the freezer bottom

Need to find out if the refrigerator is going into defrost normally, about every 8 to 10 hours. If it does defrost normally, does the drain inside the freezer panel and under the evaporator coil drain without blockage? Defrosted ice, (water) should go down a drain pipe and into a pan near compressor. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

ICE MAKER FREEEZES

my suggestion is unplug frige. for a couple of days! yes you will have to vacate everything. let all ice melt.. have mops and buckets ready for a poss. flood due to so much ice buildup. see if you can disconnect any hoses after thaw and blow in them. make sure fridge is disconnected!. look for any cracked plastic since these can become brittle in time and use 100 percent silicone to seal.
hope for the best!

not easy to diagnose. the basic fault is that the defrost system has packed up.

check that there is continuity thro the defrost heater. there may also be a thermal fuse in series with the heater so check that also.

if those ok, then points to a fault in the main module

Drain line may be plugged. Access from the rear and clean it out. Then melt ice and put some hot water through the drain to insure it is clear. The water should appear in the drain pan under the freezer.
