Question about Frigidaire Affinity ATF7000E Front Load Washer

On "spin only" setting, it's just doing a gentle agitate

On "spin only" maximum spin speed, it is just doing a gentle agitate, never spinning at all.

In addition to a slow "spin only", it fails to wring out some loads on wash settings. Appears to be related to "out of balance" condition because no single item will achieve full spin speed. Add a second similar item to the wash/spin and it will reach full spin speed. Some full loads will fail to reach high speed spin. Suspect an over-sensitive out-of -balance sensor.

    Does anyone have a solution?

Same problem. On the Drain and Spin setting (and a couple of others) it spins very slowly and doesn't get all the water out. On the Normal setting it spins fine and the clothes finish only damp with most of the water out.

Kenmore 80 Series 110.27802690 agitator barely moving

It's the transmission that's bad. The motor turns one direction to spin and the opposite direction to agitate. The transmission converts the constant belt speed from the motor into the back and forth motion. In the other direction, the transmission stops and the whole system spins.
(I don't suspect you have it set to "delicates")

We have an Ultima washing machine and creases the cloths very badly any suggestions please

The amount of creasing you will get is directly related to the speed you select for the final spin dry cycle and the spin after the first wash cycle which occurs prior to the rinse cycle. The higher the speed and the longer it goes for the more the clothes will crease.

Experiment with different spin speeds on your machine for clothing that is subject to the creasing problem. Also do not put too many items in the machine for a wash as many people do as this will contribute to creasing. Always under load your machine for every wash cycle.

Spin drying is a compromise between creasing and maximum water removal. If you want less creasing you will need to select a more gentle spin dry speed but you will also have the clothes coming out of the machine with a higher water content and they will take a bit longer to dry. The spin time on the program may also be shorter.

In my own machines I use a gentle wash and spin cycle for all clothing that I don't want heavily creased. Running it on a wash cycle with a high and longer spin speed when the machine is spinning the clothes after the initial wash, and then again after the final rinse, will thoroughly crease the clothes every time.

Also bear in mind that different fabrics that are suitable for machine washing will perform differently and some are just too subject to creasing even if you use the most gentle wash, rinse and spin cycle. Hence you can take 2 different 100% cotton fabrics out of a machine and hang them to dry and one will be almost crease free and the other will be thoroughly creased. With these fabrics that are just very subject to wash creasing, it is better to hand wash and rinse them. Then after rinsing drip dry them or put them in the machine and spin them for 1 -2 minutes maximum just to get some of the water out and hang dry them.

Not spinning while it drains or agitates

If the machine is newer than 15 years and is a top load. The problem sounds like the drive coupling may be broken or could be dealing with a faulty motor or transmission. The motor spins one direction for agitate and spins the opposite for spin cycle. If the drive coupling is going bad it may still agitate and not spin out. The pump is on opposite of motor so thats why it will pump out. The motor has different speeds and one may be bad that will allow it to agitate but not spin out. The transmissions have plastic gears in them and it is a possibility that it will work in agitate and not in spin mode. To know for sure you may want to call a local appliance sercvice company .

Will not start washing process

Is the belt broke?

If not, will it spin it you put it in spin mode?

If it spins, but not agitates, the transmission is locked up in agitation and needs replaced. This is a major undertaking.

Kenmore 90 series with speed selector switch set to heavy duty cycle it works fine any other setting , regular , hand wash setting the agitator makes a loud clicking sound as it agitates

sounds like a transmition problem. does the noise happen when it goes into spin on the other settings? If no noise in the spin cycle on the other setting, then it sounds like a the gears in the transmition internally when bad for the agitation.

Washer won't spin makes banging sound

remove the agitator. there is a cone shaped block on the agitator shaft and locked to the tub via a large lock nut. spin tube has 2 tabs that lock into slots on top of block. these can strip out and cause the spin tube to spin inside block. watch it and turn machine on spin. tub can also drop and drag on bottom of outer tub. if this is it replace block and gently straighten tabs on spin tube.

Spin cycle with agitation motion occurring simultaneously

Hi again,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

I believe the dampness is due to slow spin speed as you also have concluded. And I suspect that partial winding of the motor is the culprit. Hence, replacement is in order.

As to your concern why the agitator also operate during the spin setting, it could possibly be stuck or locked agitator dogs. Agitator dogs function is better explained here by another FixYa member, jsrock516.

Cheers.
