av 1 is the source input for the tv
there should be av 2, 3 4 etc and each one isa for a different input item
for example av1 is for the tv -aerial , av2 may be dvd input , av3 may be x box, av4 home theater

isn't there any manual/ book? To connect TV to Sky Box VCR, connect the SCART lead from the AV1 socket on the TV to the TV SCART socket on the Sky Box. You need a 21 pin scart lead. It will plug into the rear of the tv and into the rear of the cable box. Note witch socket you plug to on the tv and select that to view. (i.e. plug into av1 on tv, select av1 to view using remote) I hope this helps.
