Need program to run educational software

This is software by Scott Foresman. System requirements say I need. Win Pent 90 MHz or better. I don't know exactly what to download but when I put in the disc it asks me to choose a program or download from internet. I'm assuming I don't have the available program already installed on my comp. It's a DELL intel pent 4/ Optiplex GX270. Just have no idea what I need to run this program.

Im not sure but mabe try to download the same program you are trying to run from the internet or right click on the program on the CD then click properties then click compatiblity and try to change it to ex. Windows 98.

Hope this works,

You certainly meet the system requirements needed to run that software. I do not know much about Scott Foresman, but you are currently running at very least a 2.0 GHz machine, equivalent of 2000Mhz, more than enough speed needed to run that program.
In terms of installing the program, it seems you have the choice to either install whatever version is available on the disc, or the latest up-to-date version available online.

Converting from xp to windows 7

You can, but thorough backup of all your XP stuff is needed first, as you will lose much of it. Here is the detailed MS guide

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7#T1=tab01

Unless you have a genuine copy of W7 already, I'd recommend going to W8.1 , as it has now stabilised and will be supported for much longer than W7. However your hardware would need to be good enough. From XP there is no automated way to check this, instead

Vertex ce82 on my laptop says ce92win power on radio trying to program vertex 2200 mobile radio

Hi Shawn,

The problem is on the screen for you to see.....

You need to downgrade your CE OS to Win CE82, else you r Vertex software won't work, but downgrading is futile, so unless you can get hold of a friends Pocket book PC running Win CE OS 82, you may have problems.

This is a Win CE Operating System fault rather than Vertex software fault.

You say laptop, Win CE OS is for the smaller Pocket Book PCs as far as I'm aware.

If you're running that OS on a laptop PC, that can cause you lots more problems.

I hope this answer clears up the issue a little.

Regards,
Peter

Installing the jumpstart advanced 1stgrade cd rom that has 4 cds to it and I can't get it to install.

Jumpstart advanced 1stgrade cd rom installation.

System Requirements
Windows: 98/ME/2000/XP; Pentium II 266MHz (Pentium II 300MHz or faster for XP); 64 MB RAM (128 MB RAM for XP); 100 MB HD; 12x CD-ROM drive; 16-Bit color; Windows compatible sound card

If you are installing on a newer OS ie Vista, or Win 7, due to software incompatibility the software might not install, or even you can install the software might no work.

You can try using the "compatibility mode" in Vista or Win 7 to install the programs as "administrator" but no guarante this will work.

Alternatively, you can get a newer version which is compatible to your Operating System.

Hope it helps.

1 GB of ram? Check the software for minimum PC system requirements. It will say how many MHz is necessary to play the game.It will also give you what video card (min),RAM(min),DirectX (7 or Higher?) this game requires MINIMUM to run.Quite often the game will run,but poorly.Your AMD 2200 runs at 1800 which isn't lightening fast, but sufficient.I think the addition of at least 1 more GB of RAM is what you need,a total of 3GB would really make the computer happy when playing games.

Run this program from Microsoft to test your current memory for errors.
My computer is much like yours,I have XP Media-The 8600 card,a dual core 2.8 processor and 3GB of RAM.This setup will run a online racing game without hick ups at 1152 x 864 resolution. When I only had 1GB of RAM it would stutter like it was constantly trying to load the program,so I added another Gig and it started playing allot better. It couldn't keep up with Halo online until I added another 1GB for a total of 3GB.I am using a 32x version of XP,going to a 64x setup would improve performance even more.
Sorry,I'm talking too much.Try the RAM after you test what you have, you'll be glad you did!

does your system match the system requirments of windows vista 2006 version, if not then it will not start, o.s today require high computer specs in order for it run properly, you should know the specification of your system before you had win vista installed does your system have requirments to run win vista, if not better revert back to the o.s. where it runs smoothly or have it upgraded to accomodate windows vista

Upgrade processor?

I read the thread over at computing.net just now. I'm having trouble locating a picture of the internals of the Deskpro 4000 online but I know Compaq did some pretty non-standard things back in the day.
Yea, try upgrading the processor - it's not going to cost much to try. Much as WebsWonder commented, I've been throwing out everything below 2ghz at work.
The 2mb S3 Graphics was great for its day. Look around on eBay and find a PCI interface card with 8 meg of ram or better. An ATI 7000 series would be good n cheap but even a Rage 128 would be an improvement over what you have now.
I honestly don't know if upgrading to 333 mhz is going to produce smooth video for you. I upgraded my son's Compaq Armada 1750 from a P-II 333 to a P-III 500, bumped the memory up to the max 312, and installed a 7200 rpm hard drive. It streams video just fine on XP Home.
