The card will have a small latch that can be slid up/down for locking or unlocking it. Move it to the opposite end to unlock the card..

Hope that helps,
Sai.

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the files on your XD card, here are some for your options.

Photo Recovery (for Windows)
Photo Recovery for Mac

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Olympus 2G xd M card with pictures - error message "clean card" or format

Just had the same issue today. The Olympus Helpdesk told me that the fact I had printed one of the picture from the Xd card in directly inserting the card in the printer slot for Xd created the problem....
The guy from the Helpdesk strongly recommended to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer exclusively using the USB cable of the camera.
In the end I have saved all my 505 pictures in using the Smart Recovery from PC Inspector but why the hell this problem only happens with Xd cards?

Blue screen

You should check the settings to see which type of memory card you are using, xD versus Compact Flash. The default xD card that the camera comes with is very small and may not support saving the size of image you're trying to capture. If you are using a card with enough memory the card itself might be defective..

Olympus 770 not able to move photos from xd card to laptop error message every time

A couple of questions :

What happens when you use "Windows Explorer" to view the contents of the card .
It should appear as just another disk drive in the list .

Are you able to view the contents of the card when you plug the camera into the usb port ?

Saved images to the internal memory or to the optional xD-Picture Card

The internal memory and the xD-Picture Card cannot be used at the same time. When the card is inserted the internal memory is disabled. When you want to use the internal memory, remove the xD Picture Card. The LCD display will indicate that images are saved to internal memory by displaying [IN] in the lower right corner of the screen. When using the xD-Picture Card the camera’s LCD will display [xD] in the lower right corner of the screen. These indicators are displayed just above the number of available frames.

Move images saved to the internal memory to the optional xD-Picture Card

The images saved to the internal memory can be copied to the xD Picture Card, but you cannot copy images from the xD Picture Card to the internal memory. Before you choose to copy the files to the xD card be sure that there is enough room on that card. To copy the images to the xD card make sure the camera is powered on, then and press the menu button. Use the down arrow key to navigate through the menu to the BACK UP feature. Use the right arrow key to enter the Back Up screen and select YES to copy the images to the xD card, or NO if you choose not to coy the image files.
