Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a 52" fahrenheat baseboard heater with the controls on the right end that started smoking this morning from the control end. Is there a way to repair this? Thermostat maybe? I can't find the model # on it and don't know anything about it.

The price and trouble to find a correct replacement may make whole heater replacement more to your liking. I suspect the cause was a loosend wire not or connection.
Consult ww Granger or a local ACE hardware store for replacement and take the breaker and wire  size with you for being sure your correctly sized for the length of heater you'll be needing.
Please Grade me accordingly, and if you need more I need more info. THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!

Can't seem to be able to wire up thermostat.

Hi!!

Just remember that the thermostat is a control device, like a flip switch, this means one end comes from the outlet (IN) and the output goes to the heating element or, if there are other control devices before the thermostat, goes thru them and then to the thermostat and heating element. The other end from the outlet goes straight to the heating element.

If you need extra help, let me know.

Electric Hydronic Baseboard Heater, 240 Volt: WHEN I TURNED ON MY ELECTRIC BASEBOARD HEATER THER...

My PLF504 detonated this morning (11-25-2010). It worked fine for two years then BANG. Room was lit by flame coming from center (left to right) of unit. I wrote Marley asking them to honor the 10 year heater element warranty. Also, no burnt wires at thermostat connection, no dust bunnies on the fins. Source of fire was the fluid filled encapsulated heater core. Thank God, circuit breaker tripped and wall was tiled.

How to wire unit baseboard heater to the power to thermoster

That is a portable unit and should not be hard-wired and controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat. The unit may never cut off that way.

It is considered a "space heater" not an area heater.

Fahrenheat electric baseboard heaters are not safe for children

A few companies sell child-proof covers that prevent little fingers and small objects from getting into the radiators. Try searching Child-safe baseboard heater covers in a google search or PexSupply.com.... we use them in daycare centers.

Electric baseboard heater

You need a meter, it will be hard without this! If you have 220v in the wall, then think of it like this; each wire is 120v. Test to each other, you get 220v. The thermostat is a double pole, you said. So think of it like this, its an adjustable temperature controlled switch that lets electricity through at the temp. you set it at. If you have 120v from one wire connected to one end of the element, and the other 120v connected to the other end of the element, then it will work. DO NOT CONNECT THE 120V TOGETHER. IT MUST GO THROUGH THE ELEMENT FIRST. The thermostat should be between the power from the wall and the element, to control the temperature.
