Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC20 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Auto Exposure I cannot see anything throught the viewfinder or LCD outdoors unless I change to manual exposure and decrease. The image is too bright in auto exposure. My NightShot is not on and I have tried to vary the LCD brightness. I truely believe that the Auto Exposure function is not working. Does anyone have a fix?

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

My gs500s colors are bright pink and i tried changing white balance and nothing works

Try going into "reset" master mode. otherwise you need to make sure your camera is shooting on the right setting for the light you are using. For example, when shooting in daylight with interior light setting (approx. 3200k) your photos will look off color and yellow or pink because sunlight is 5600k approx.,. . . contrary while shooting indoors with incandescant lighting if the camera is set for sunlight exposure (5600k) the picture will look blue. Make sure you read the manual on how to white balace, but first take the camera out of AutoExposure settings to do all the settings manually. Auto focus and auto exposure are for rookies and these types of errors will happen. Always try to do manual iris and manual focus for best results zoom in and get your focus on the subjects eyes then zoom out and frame up your shot.

JVC camcorder won't work inside at night anymore.

check the following in camera mode and the auto/manual switch set to manual:
exposure: set to auto shutter: set to auto or off agc: auto white balance: auto program ae: off gain up: auto display/bright: +1-+3
after all that, hit the auto/manual switch again to set the camera into auto mode, the new settings should sort you out.

Outdoor exposure all white screen

Model and brand will help me to provide you exact info about aperture (iris) control problem in your camcorder.
Usually IRIS control mechanism got stuck in camcorders and can be released by taking it out from lens mechanism to clean its sliding filters.
Let me know model and brand for further technical info.

Sony TRV308 Camcorder is not picking up light when recording

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Do your videos come out dark when you play them back? Or Is it dark while you are recording?
If it's dark while you are recording, is it dark in the viewfinder, or the LCD screen?

If your videos come out dark when you play them back, check the manual exposure. Hit the exposure button and turn the sel/push execute wheel to change the exposure to lighter.

If you are looking through the view finder to record and it's dark, check to make sure the window is clean.

If your LCD screen looks dark while your recording, put the power switch to player, hit the menu button and scroll down to LCD, select it and turn the select wheel to brighter.

I had to guess at what your problem was due to the information you provided, so I tried to cover the most obvious. If I failed to answer your question, please comment and be more specific.

Hope this helps, and thank you for coming to FixYa.

Cannot shoot outdoors

well most likely the white balance is set for indoors or dark. what you need to do is find out how to change the white balance on the camera and then it should be fine

Strange problem in dcr trv 140 sony camcorder.

Did you turn the exposure lock on? That would lock the iris so that it will not adjust for changes in lighting.
