Question about Sony KV-27S42 27" TV

1 Answer

Sony-27S46 TV standby light flashes 4 times

I spoke with CRTN or ROSHAN89 last week on this issue (FixYa email #88). I have installed the part Roshan suggested. It took a while to receive part from Sony. I did not know there was a 24 hour limit.
After replacing IC541 (vertical output) the symptoms are the same which is no picture, no sound, code 4 diagnostic. The procedure CRTN gave me to clear code 4 did not work. I To reset: unplug TV and press ON/OFF for 30 seconds. To clear: press DISPLAY - CHANNEL - 5- VOLUME +, ENTER in succession quickly on remote. Is this correct?
I have not rated either expert or closed out the chat. Whoever responds gets an A+ rating from me, even if it is someone other than CRTN or ROSHAN89.

Dan Thanks for the quick response. Yes it is a KV-27S46. That is on the back cover and the SAMs Photofact I am using. The set was given to me in its present state and the original owner does not remember how it failed. The ON/OFF relay comes on when the switch is pressed but I can hear it drop off a few seconds later, so I assumed there was no voltage. Yes I have a DVM and lots of experience using it. I will make the measurement if you say so. Since it was not the IC, which capacitor are you talking about - or am I getting ahead of myself? Larry

Dan, This computer stuff confuses me. Did you get my response? I was asked to rate your response and I thought we were starting a chat.

    Dan,

The computer is asking me to try the Premium Assistance plan. I did so last week. What to do?

  • larry 11143 Jan 14, 2009

Dan, It looks like your system is trying to get me to pay for the same thing twice. The other experts have not responded. I am still trying to fix the same problem that I already paid for. I had to wait a week for parts. Can/will you help me? Please send me an email or something so I will know what is going on. My email is larry11143@live.com Thanks, Larry

    Dan,

I was unable to link to the original chat screen. I get a PAGE NO LONGER AVAILABLE when I try to get to the orig discussion. I will get on line if you tell me how. Anyhow, there is no B+ at vertical out IC541. My SAMs depicts +13.7V for B+. There is no -15.2V source to the IC either. As I said before, I did not attempt to measure voltages previously because the TV goes into auto shutdown a few seconds after I press the ON/OFF switch. I can hear a relay click on then off a few seconds later. Since I already replaced the IC, please identify the capacitor you thought could cause this problem. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Larry

Can you please confirm the model number? The category is for KV-27S42 and you state in the title you have KV-27S46. Also, when getting the 4 blink code, do you see a horizontal line on the screen or nothing at all? The 4 blinks means no vertical sweep. This can be a bad vertical IC (what you changed already) or no power to the IC or even a bad capacitor in the same circuit. If you know how, check the supply voltage to the IC. If not present, we need to trace the supply line for that IC. I will need to consult the service manual to provide additional details. Please confirm the model so I get the correct part numbers etc.

Thanks,
Dan

The problem is that you have created a secondary question that is not tied to the first. From the system's perspective, this is a separate string of question/information. If you have the schematic, look at the pins of the vertical IC. You will see one for B+ which I think is 24V. Measure that pin to ground and you should read 24V. If not, then trace back to find where it starts/stops.

At this point, why don't you try adding comments to the original premium or chat. This line here is just a question/answer thread and not a chat so it is not instantaneous. If you get charged for this thread request a refund. Take the info I have provided and continue this discussion on the original note/chat.

    Good luck.

    Dan

My standby/timer light is flashing and will not turn on.

Hi,
The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV.
The self-diagnostic function of the projection TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue. As per the two examples below, some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
If the STANDBY light flashes three times in sequence, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
If the STANDBY light flashes four times in sequence, the TV may be overheating. To resolve this issue, ensure that the back of the TV is well ventilated.
If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Sony tv wont turn on, standby light just flashes

check for an open resistor on the power supply, it is actually a fusible resistor, (white) if open, then check the converter, some sets have two separate and some have it as one. it will be on a heat sink on the power supply. if shorted then check for a shorted horizontal output transistor and repair cold solder joints on the horizintal drive transformer which is the real cause of this problem
