Over time, Windows loses stability. If you keep a computer for more
than two years, at some point you're going to have to bite the bullet
and reinstall Windows from scratch. But contrary to popular belief, you
won't have to reformat your hard drive (with one exception, discussed
below). The bad stuff you need to get rid of is all in your Windows

ASUS netbooks have a Boot Booster which renders all activity obsolete, you need to disable the boot booster first.
First you need to access the BIOS/Setup Utility, on an ASUS machine/Motherboard you need to hit "Del" or "F2" notF9 at this stage.
Once in the Setup Utility, using your arrow keys navigate to the Boot options page. Using down arrow key navigate to Boot Booster option and hit Enter to disable. Once the option is disabled navigate to the last tab Exit, and using down arrow key to navigate to Exit and Save Changes.
Your laptop will then reboot and as soon as it does you may start to hit "F9" which will start the Factory Settings utility. You can then follow the on screen instructions to continue wit the resetting of your machine.
Restart your computer. Press F9 key immediately when the ASUS logo appears. This will start the recovery procedure, including the installation of all the drivers and utilities. Follow the instructions. Your computer will be restored to the factory settings. 1. Recover windows to first partition only. this option will delete only the first partition, allowing you to keep other partitions, and create a new system partition as drive "c". 2. Recover windows to entire HD. This option will delete all partitions from your hard disk drive and create a new system partition as drive "C". 3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partition. This option will delete all partitions from your hard drive and create two new partitions "C" (60%) and "D" (40%). Usually, the brand new ASUS notebook computer hard disk is with 2 partitions. So, it is suggested that you select “3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partitions”.
You need not to press F2 or tab or escape unless you need to do so. If your system is ok, it'll automatically boot up, but if there's boot up problem with your system, then that's different.

If your computer is still within warranty, you have an option to request for a recovery cd from Asus which you can use to reinstall your OS. The only thing is, if you use the cd it will wipe out everything on your computer as it will do a clean installation of your OS. Just make sure you have a back up of your files before you use the recovery cd
