SOURCE: Viking freezer frost build-up

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

SOURCE: Refridgerator side not cooling, there is a lot of

Most likely , the problem is a bad defrost heater , pt # WR51X10055 , but I would still suggest going thru the motions to make sure . The heater runs about $45.00 .
Pull the refrig out and remove the 8 " x 10 " panel . Behind this panel , is the main control board . Unplug the refrig . Remove the BLUE plug from the board , with 3 larger wires going to it . Looking at the blue plug , the sequence will be wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Get a short piece of insulated wire , and strip about 1/4 inch from each end . Insert 1 end into wire2 , and the other into wire3 . Plug the refrig back in . After about 3 min , look in the freezer , at the bottom , behind the crisper , look for a red glow . If no red glow , unplug the refrig , and reassemble the plug and cover . This no glow , indicates a shorted defrost heater WR51X10055 . It is also advisable to replace the defrost thermostat ( pt. number WR50X10068 ) when replacing the heater . To access these parts , you will have to remove the inside rear wall of the freezer . The heater , is at the bottom of the coils , held on with 2 screws , and the thermostat , is the 1 " cylinder , with a blue and pink wire going to it , clipped on the top left of the coils .
If you do get a red glow , then the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp and when to cycle off due to selected temperature

It is your defrost heater, you can get them from marcone.com with just your model number. Also at that web site you will get a exploded view of your unit. thiswill allow you to see the location of the heaters so you can just replace where the frost develops.

Upper portion (frig not cooling properly) Lower portion (freezer) forming ice on #3 setting.

Is it forming ice or frost? It sounds like an automatic defrost problem. If the freezer frosts up it won't circulate enough air up to the fresh food compartment. Try defrosting it manually for 24 hours by shutting it down and leaving the freezer door open. Afterwards, if it resumes normal operation I would bet that there is something faulty in the defrost circuit, i.e., defrost heater not working or defrost control.

Hi there.I have an Amana Side by Side Refridgerator. We are having a problem with the fridge side not cooling enough. The Freezer side is working well.Have you any tips on how to fix it myself ?Cheers.

Check fan which blows cool to fridge compartment is working. Check fridge is defrosted automatically. If not do it manually and check, there will be cooling in fridge compartment. Over frosting will cover up the fan throw behind the freezer. If not auto defrost works, switch off and restart after 5 minutes. Still auto defrost problem, do it manually or replace board.

Kenmore Refridgerator Freezer Condensation

When I observed this issue, I found the freezer not running the defrost cycle enough times, (maybe this was in the spirit of conserving energy Energy Star compliant???))
If the Defrost is working, use the diagnostic test, that may be all you need to do until the next build up of frost on the coils.

Freezer coils completely frost (freeze) up--refridgerator warms

Sounds like the defrost timer or something in the defrost circuit. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze
