Question about Canon PowerShot SD750 / IXUS 75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a Cannon PowerShot SD750. The LCD suddenly went blank - dark all through, last month Dec.,08. I tried everything - reset, disp button, menu, power down, etc. to no avail. The best answer to my search for solution recommends sending it back to the manufacturer for a free correction of the problem which they say occurs when the camera is left in a too-hot-for-it environment, like inside a car on a sunny (hot) day. My problem is which canon address or telephone number do I contact? I am based in the Turks and Caicos Islands (south of Bahamas). The camera was bought at BestBuy, US over the net. Help me please.

You bought it from a US retailer , so you should send it in for US warranty repair. Perhaps you can arrange return shipping from Canon's repair facility.
My camera died in December 08, too, just past the warranty coverage, so I'm out of luck.
Best of luck to you!

I have canon sd 750. its lcd gets black. Shows pictures etc but view finder remains dark. display is zz. what to do?

Look for DISP or DISPLAY button in the lower-right corner of the back of your camera. Press this once while the camera is turned on. The DISPLAY button manually turns the screen on and off. This is to save battery power for extended use. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place.

My canon ixus 75 displays a black screen when in the shoot mode, this happened suddenly while taking a number of pictures, although I can still veiw pictures on the memory card.

Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

There usually is a button on the camera which will affect the LCD operation. On these Canons usually it is marked with a small monitor icon or it has "Disp" next to the button. This is on the surface of the camera and not in the menu. It will also be in the menu, but since you cannot see the lcd display, then I assume you have to try to use the buttons on the camera.

A85 LCD stays off in all modes except "stitch"

Hi Toonz
I have exactly the same problem as Shimoni and Antonio with my 4 years old A85.
But sorry, its not a problem of the CCD, cause we all get a clear actual picture on the LCD but just in stitch mode! In any other shooting or playback mode the LCD is dark. So the sensor must be working well and Canon Germany doesnt repair for free. Our failure is different and we have to pay much more than the camera is worth ;-((

Don't hit it. With the camera on, have you tried pressing the DISP button once? It's the bottom button on the back of your camera.

As a side note, the DISP button was intended for digital cameras with an optical viewfinder (something the SD750 and newer elphs no longer have). The idea was to allow the user to manually turn the display on or off as desired to save batteries, and then just aim the camera through the viewfinder. I'm curious as to Canon's justification for including this button on their newer cameras that do not have a viewfinder?
