Question about NetGear DG834G Router

1 Answer

Netgear DG834G V4 Website connection problems

1. When my desktop PC is connected to the Netgear DG834G V4 wireless router via a Wireless-G USB adapter it will now not load a large number of websites, but will load others. Prior to Monday evening this connection had worked fine since August last year.
2. If I connect the PC to my neighbour’s unsecured wireless network, everything works and all websites load – suggesting there are no issues with the PC itself.
3. In Safe Mode I have reset my computer to a few day’s prior configuration when everything was working (to avoid any subsequent AVG updates, etc.)
4. To be certain I have briefly disabled my firewall and virus protection but this makes no difference when trying to connect via the Netgear router.
5. To eradicate any possible wireless connection problems I have hardwired the PC to the router – still the same which therefore removes any potential problem with the Wireless-G USB adapter. Also packets of data are being both sent and received.
6. My laptop PC works fine with the Netgear router and will load, for example AOL.co.uk with no difficulties.
7. I have also powered down the Netgear router for over half an hour before reconnecting.

As you might appreciate I am now a bit lost as there fundamentally is no problem with the router (as the laptop works with it), the USB adapter (as hardwiring makes no difference) or my own PC (as it connects fine with my neighbour’s connection).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Netgear connection

is that wired connection or wireless? if it is wired, checked the cable and the port, make sure that the LAN connection is enabled.

if it is for wireless, checked the wireless settings of the router, enable the wireless card of the wireless computer and, verify the wireless settings of the netgear adapter and from there connect to it.

Open Zonealarm, choose Firewall, Zones.

Add >> IP Range set your IP range eg 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254

This should allow connection between Router and Wireless Laptop/Desktop.

If your wireless PC cannot see the router, check your router setting to see if you are transmitting a SSID

Do i need the cables for the router?

To go Wireless on your desktop Acer Aspire L3600, you should consider buying an USB Wireless Adapter. It could be any brand as long have same frequency with your Netgear (i.e 2.4 Ghz/5.8 Ghz)

Make sure that the wireless settings set in the Netgear router are properly configured in the computer. Check the wireless adapter status from Device Manager and see to it that it is working properly.

Connecting a PC with trendnet wireless AP to DG834G

you need service pack 3 as this sees any connected media that can be accessed from the programmes menu>accesories>system tools or download programme from here to set up xbox/pc streaming.

As for the Trendnet ensure that the pc it fitted to is not set to dial a connection, open IE and then tools>internet options>connections tab and select never dial a connection or it's greyed out.

Then in the properties of your wireless adapter select the TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically'.

I purchased a Belkin N1 Wireless USB adapter recommended to me by PC World but it is not working correctly. It WILL locate my network but will NOT allow internet access on it. I did ask specifically in the...

Hi there!

Theoretically, it should work with each other. I didn't find any documentation at Belkin's site that states the N1 USB adapter being not compatible with 3rd party devices like your Netgear router.

From what I know is N-Draft's wireless technology should be backwards compatible with both wireless-B and wireless-G devices.

1. Do you have other working wireless devices at your network during that time that you have the N1 USB adapter?
2. Were you able to connect to your wireless network? If Yes, what was your IP address at the wireless computer incase you had the chance to check it?

Maybe you can try to inquire with Belkin about what you've encountered with their device for clarification.

Hope this helps!
