1

Open the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel." Open the "Administrative Tools" icon in Classic View, or click "Performance and Maintenance" and then "Administrative Tools" in Category View.
2

Double-click on the "Computer Management" shortcut. Click on "Device Manager" in the "System Tools" section.
3

Click to expand the section containing the driver you want to update. Right-click on the drive and click "Properties." Open the "Driver" tab.
4

Click the "Update Driver" button. If you have performed this action before, the system may automatically start searching the Internet for an update. Otherwise click the "Yes, this time only" or "Yes, now and every time I connect a device" radio button to authorize the Internet connection. Click "Next" to continue.
5

Leave the "Install the software automatically" radio button selected and click "Next" again. Wait while Windows searches the Windows Update website for the correct software.
6

Click "Next" and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the update. If you already have the newest version of the software, windows won't present any update options.

Hi,

You need to clean your system from the virus infection, upgrade your SP2 to SP3 and run Windows update. Your drive will be updated without paying anything.

well in this case if Your windows is genuine then i prefer to updating your windows xp.
but if You are using a non corporate version then it'll always create a problem whenever you updating your system.....
well if you having a problem in your sound device then firstly you have to remove the udpates of windows xp from "Add or remove programes.." and after that simply restart your PC...then chek it....if it is still not working then you have only one choice that reinstall your sound device......

DELL Vostro 1500 causing many problems...

For using xp you must have the correct drivers. These should be available for download from the Dell support website. You may also find updating windows xp will help you may be using service pack one, so make sure all updates are done.

If you have to load drivers you should load the chipset first followed by the graphics then the sound. Check on your hardware list under system in control panel that there are no conflicts.

I hope this is helpful please rate the assistance given.
