Question about Honeywell HZ-3220BW Compact Heater

2 Answers

Heater turns itself off after 2 minutes.

When you turn on the heater, it lasts for about 2 minutes, then automatically turns off. If you try to turn it back on, the display lights just flicker while holding the "on" button. Any ideas?

Try changing the "stack flu sensor". It could be the sensor is bad or the sensor could be detecting a bigger problem. The sensor can not be jumped out.

The heater may need to reset itself. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the heater from the wall outlet. Wait 12 - 15 minutes and plug the heater back in. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set the controls as you normally would. Hopefully, that 12 - 15 minute timeout allowed the heater to reset itself. If this continues to occur, contact Dimplex Technical Service at

Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Ed, try turning OFF the Master ON/OFF Switch and unplugging the unit. Wait 12-15 minutes and plug it back in. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set your controls as you normally do. Hopefully the heater reset itself turn that 12-15 minute timeout. In the future don't tilt the heater and activate the tilt switch. Its like a Pin Ball Machine, you loose your turn if you tilt it.

Hope that helps to solve your problem.

Instructions for American Standard Safe-T-Heater #9075.120

Once the heater is installed and the whirlpool pump is operating, the heater is totally automatic. The heater will help maintain the temperature of the water in the bath. The heater is equipped with a preset pressure switch. The pump must be running with water flowing in the whirlpool to allow the heater to turn on. The Indicator Light light turns on whenever the heater is operating. The heater includes an exclusive "Intelligent High-Limit". This safety circuit will not "false trip" from hot tap water. It will only turn the heater off if the thermostat fails. If the high-limit trips frequently, call a service technician. To manually reset the circuit in the event that the "High-Limit" switch has been activated, simply (1) Turn off the whirlpool pump. (2) Drain water from the tub. (3) Remove power from heater by unplugging at receptacle or turning off circuit breaker. (4) The heater circuit will automatically reset in less than 15 minutes. (5) Restore power to the heater. (6) Whirlpool bath is now ready to use.
Good Luck,

Lasko5840

The 5840 has a problem with dust getting on the heater element and turning itself off after 2 minutes running. HERE IS THE FIX. Unplug the unit from the AC outlet, Then using a can of dusting air ( the kind you use to clean a computer key board) aim the compressed air INTO the middle louver of the upper adjustable heater vent and blow out the dust that has gotten on the heater element. ( You are actually blowing into the unit, clearing off the lint/dust that has gotten on the backside of the heater element that you can not see without openning the entire case). You can see the front of the heater element inside the louvers, It's the shinny metal part that looks like a small radiator. It sits behind the middle louver. After blowing out the dust, shake the entire unit to allow the dust to settle to the bottom of the case. Using a vacum cleaner try to vacum out any dust from the LOWER FRONT intake. Once the dust has been blown OFF the heater element, the unit will work just as new and not shut itself down!

Honeywell surround heater shuts off

Had the same problem. The cause: The coils have too much dust on them.
Soultion: Take the bottom of the base off and clean/vacuum. While the base is off, you also have access to the interior of the heater. Remove the 2 screws on the bottom front, then the 2 on the bottom back. The plastic panels will come off and you'll have access to all internal areas. Just clean thoroughly and you should be good to go. You wouldn't realize it, but even with a spotless house, the heater will **** any small particle of dust.
