Printer won't recognize cartridges

I have an Epson SX400. I replaced the cartridges with compatible ones but the machine does not recognise them. I have checked that they are compatible but the machine does not accept this. Any ideas?

My printer, Epson sx400 will not accept compatible cartridges, I tried taking them all out, switching printer off, then on again. Bingo! it worked. But next time I switched on it said that they were not compatible. I tried taking them all out again several times, but they still wont recognize them. Any solutions please?

I have just experienced the same problem - I purchased my ink (T0891 & T0896) from Argos, the packaging says that the cartridges are compatible with the SX400 but looking on the espon website, if you put the code printed on the front, are aren't..the only fit the SX100. It must be that Espon have it wrong. I'm gonna ring them tomorrow and find out more and update the site then...either way Argos are gonna get my cartridges back :-) Rob.

tryed cleaning them it does not work.Crafty Epsom have made the new printers so they will reject copies, then you have to pay near £40 pounds for new ink, what a total ripoff. I'm buying a kodac printer next time £18 for a set of ink for their printer.

I just purchased the new Kodak. I love it, BUT (BIG BUT) there is no savings in the ink. Black is only $10. Color is $20. These cartridges empty out so fast, like every couple of days. I do pictures, documents, and whatever but my other Epson, HP, and other cartridges lasted so much longer doing the same amount of work. No savings here! ajs

No longer recognizes the ink

Are you using compatible ink cartridges? When a compatible cartridge is empty in an Epson printer the printer reports "Cartridge not recognised". This is Epson's way of scaring you into using Epson branded cartridges. Just change the cartridge and it should be OK.

If it's not that issue then maybe the chip on the cartridge is faulty. Again, just change the cartridge.

Epson workforce 520 won't recognise ink cartidges

When replacing ink on the Epson Workforce 520, Ensure the cartridges have the correct/same number of gold contacts. Ive seen them with 7 and 9 gold square contacts and they were otherwise identical, and the ones with 9 contacts threw an "cartridge not recognized" error on the printer's dispay.

Printer does not recognize the new cartridge, but doe show the old cartridge as being empty so it does recognize that one.

Are you using original Epson Cartridges? if not, that might be your problem. The cartridges have chips in them and the printer might not recognise some imitations. Also, if you have recently done a firmware upgrade on your epson, you will probably never be able to use compatibles again.

Ink not compatable on sx 400

Try pulling out the cartridges and powering down the printer. Put the cartridges back in and pull power back up. That may let the printer recognize them and sober up. If you have recently replaced the cartridges, make sure that the new ones are EXACTLY the same as the old ones. Even if they fit, they may not work.

Epson Stylus SX400 "Ink cartridges cannot be recognized"

Try this: First check which cartridge(s) are not being recognized. In my case where I replaced all three color cartridges, two were recognized right away but one was not. You find out by sending a print request to the printer and looking at the ink cartridge levels diagram in the dialog window. In my case two of three were fine but one had a red X on it. So I removed it and cleaned the contacts with alcohol then rocked it in the slot after pressing it in. It was recognized and the charging process began as normal.

I have an Epson SX400. When using non-Epson

Short answer is no... The SSC utility stopped development about 3+ years ago and hasn't been compatible with newer printers produced since.

The SX400 does have a suitable reset utility if you do some searching for "adjprog tx400 download" BUT word of warning, look for a reputable source and don't just run stuff without checking thoroughly for virus/malware payloads.

Hope that helps.

Compatible ink cartridges dx8400

Epson cartridges are microchipped.

Do your new cartridges carry the same chip?

If not, they will not work.

If all else fails, return them to the supplier and explain they are not recognised by your printer.
