Check the door closure switch and the dryer interior light burning out. if the The door switch fails the light stays on,and burns out. Then you try to do a load and the dryer will not start due to the switch not making contact. replace the switch and the interior .hope this helps

I believe it is a micro-switch that indicates whether the dryer door is closed or open. If open, it prevents the dryer from starting. Since the light stays on, even when the door is closed, it is probably the switch.

Hi,
You need to change the lightbulb. It seems that the door closure switch is a common failure point. Thecommon theme is the dryer interior light burning out. The door switchfails, so the light stays on, and burns out. Then you try to do a loadand the dryer will not start due to the switch not making contact.

Diagnostic Guide Link
I found service tech diagnostic guides (PDF format) during an onlinesearch. This includes instructions on putting the dryer into test modein order to check switches, etc. Here are the links:

Hope this helps

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, 3 beeps in a Kenmore dryer is indicative of an open thermistor. It is also called a High limit thermostat and would look like the image below.

Hi After reading other problems on this board, it seems that the door closure switch is a common failure point.  The common theme is the dryer interior light burning out.  The door switch fails, so the light stays on, and burns out.  Then you try to do a load and the dryer will not start due to the switch not making contact.
Ours just started doing the same thing, and I am betting this is the culprit...
It could be an intermittent problem too.

There is only 1 thermistor on your dryer, if you look on the top of the blower housing, the part on the left is a thermal fuse, the 1 on the right is the thermistor.

If The Thermal fuse blows out, the dryer will not turn on all at.

If The thermal cut-off on the heater housing blows, the dryer will run, but not heat. This is usually a vent restriction that cause this to blow, and blow the thermal fuse over time.

Ohm out the thermal cut-off and all safety thermostat and heater coil for continuity, but the 3 beeps is usually a sign the thermistor is out.

To start unplug the machine o, or trip circuit breaker for a couple of minutes.

Check drain hose, ensure that the door latch is closing, and restart it.

Check for continuity of the thermal fuse located in the back next to the cycling thermostat (its white) You also need to make sure your breaker hasn't tripped or partially tripped. Try turning the breaker all the way off then back on. If those things are ok your next step is to check to make sure the belt isn't broken.

Try a different cycle, the timer may just be hung up a bit. Also, check that the door latches properly. Any looseness, or noticeable debris should be addressed. Always unplug the dryer first before doing any probing.

Starts with asistance then shuts off.

A centrifugal switch selects the start winding, but the run winding is always selected, according to the wiring diagram.

So, it could be a bad centrifugal switch, or a bad motor. You can test the motor by measuring the resistance between the blue and white-orange wires (the run winding), and between the blue and violet wire (the start winding). Both values should be under 4 ohms.

To continue running, the motor run winding must be OK, the door switch must be closed, the belt switch must be closed, and the thermal fuse must be OK.

All this assumes the electronic controller is OK, but this is the stuff a handy homeowner can check before calling in the big Sears guns.
